Hmm seems to have stalled a bit, £322k now which is like 6k in the last four hours? I think they need to seriously start adding to that page, demo video, concept art, anything. Having a quick look around the web seems there are a lot of stallers who are waiting for the finished product or some kind of demo about it being more than vaporware and a lot that are just plain bitter about waiting for successors to Elite and TT.

Yup - from a quick guess at the numbers tho I reckon it will hit the target somewhere around mid december but its hard to guage just how soon it will run out of proper fans backing it (good chance it will stall around 400K). Definitely needs a bit of a promotional drive to reach new audiences and convince old timers who are still uncertain.

With regards to the reward tiers, giving away the original games would be nothing but problematic. Braben can't give away the original Elite due to issues with Ian Bell. Frontier and First Encounters were released a while back as shareware. None of the 3 games would run all that well (if at all) on Windows 7 without mods such as JJFFE. Most people pledging initially will also have played the games to death and will own (or have owned) the games on several platfoms. There would be little point in offering the original games again. You've also got clones such as Oolite which are freely downloadable and look and run better on modern hardware than the originals.

A new novel may be a decent idea, I really liked the Dark Wheel. A full size "Elite" poster would be cool as would a t-shirt, im not all that sure what else would be worthwhile. The Elite icon/wing turned into a badge may be a idea. I personally don't think £20 is a bad price at all for just the game. The soundtrack is just likely to be classical music if Frontier is anything to go by.

Frontier astro is the best out of those, I prefer anyhow.

The original was, IMO, the best game ever made relative to the release date (in fact you could argue it was probably the best game of the 1980s).

Agreed - the original Elite on the BBC Micro was the game that taught me the meaning of the word 'addiction'. For me, none of the pretenders - the X series, Eve et al - have come close.

Really chuffed to hear that the physics will be as per the original - absolutely hated all that Newtonian cobblers in Frontier!

And then watch people withdraw their pledge :D

Actually I can understand now why Braben did this perhaps, he wanted to reel in the die hard fans first and then with the photos, capture the "not so die hard fans".

I wont be withdrawing mine tbh, Been waiting for this for around 20 years just like many others have.

Maybe a MOD could rename the thread to something like "Elite: Dangerous - Kickstarter" so we don't end up with mutliple threads

Well, I caved in and put some cash down on this one :) Elite is probably my all time favourite game. It was just so far ahead of its time. I'm a bit worried about Braben's ability to actually deliver a finished product but I've chucked £20 down all the same.

Fed up with all the cruddy console garbage around these days so it would be nice to see this type of game get made again.

I was actually rather gutted to hear that Frontiers 'Newtonian cobblers' (:D) got dropped. It gave the game a sense of scale that the original never had.

Admittedly the space combat at speeds in the 100's of Km/s was a trifle unusual, or perhaps terrible is a better word. Still, for a sort of multiplayer game, that system would never work.

Yeah - it's not been dropped - They're still implementing Newtonian physics just with some dampening to make it less 'slidey'.

Right, i'm going to say it and i'm sure others have started thinking it. Unless things change, this kickstarter isn't going to make it and with it dies the hope of ever getting Elite IV. More information, screenshots and videos need to be posted now. People need to be shown what they are pledging for, the game needs to sell itself to gamers who have never played the originals. Nostalgia will not get the game funded.

Uh oh. Looks like this is going to die on its arse unless they post up some videos.

Unfortunately these things work on momentum a lot of the time, and this appears to have lost every bit of it.

I'm of much the same opinion - when compared to Star Citizen this isn't exactly a demonstration of how marketing should be done. I have voiced my opinion on the Frontier forum so they can hardly say that someone should've said something. At the same time, perhaps they have something under their hats that we don't know about.
