*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

I'm looking at metrics that show there's been plenty of server capacity, so issues are more likely specific to an individual server, account, or some other factor. These can be a pain to track down so detailed bug reports are invaluable.
I was looking at a launcher telling me the servers were offline, error messages telling me that the mission board couldn't be refreshed and numerous disconnections and a thread on the official forums with many people reporting the same.

Interesting, no error messages, just doesn't connect? If the client can't connect within a couple of minutes it should automatically try another server. Are you using a VPN, or have one installed?
Just the Server Not Available message. Bog standard (well, premium) BT Broadband, no VPN.

Will try again this evening after tea.

Hi, I have never played before but have just downloaded the free version on Epic, so as a new player when asked at launch should select Elite Dangerous or Elite Dangerous New Horizons?

Many thanks

I always load Elite Dangerous New Horizons. I think the only difference between them is the Horizons DLC, which allows you to land on planets. So selecting just Elite Dangerous, you probably can't land on planets.

Hi all, recently got a hotas and setup voice attack with hcs voice pack,
Feels like a whole new game,
G2 on pre order, anyone here already got the g2? If so what's it like,
Cheers

absolutely loving this. I am old enough to remember playing the original on the BBC Micro, but this is something else. Works amazingly well on my HOTAS too - :) very happy mostly harmless bounty snatcher ;)

Thargoid combat bonds are paying a lot more since the buff. I just killed a basilisk, in the top right it said 6Million awarded, but it actually netted me 32Million, for a single thargoid kill. :)

Xmas bonus :D. I am yet to try thargoid hunting yet. Whats your ship loadout ? Presuming you need the guardian weapons to take them down ?

Lol, turns out it's a bug - apparently in the top right, when you get a bounty kill it says the old value, yet when you look in the transactions panel on the left - it shows the actual amount you got :D

I'm using a G5 engineered Krait MKII, running shield-less with lots of hull reinforcements and guardian module protectors (to protect against lightening attacks )

I'm basically using this build; https://coriolis.io/outfit/krait_mk...loBhBmUDYAsICmBDA5gG2SEBGCQkKEoA=&bn=AX BUILD

I use a lot of heatsinks, 3x engineered heatsinks each with 1 extra ammo, and run with frequent silent running. When you're cold the Thargoid has trouble hitting you, so provided you manage heat, you can orbit them with flight assist off and take minimal damage. I also run with repair limpets, so if I take a beating - I can boost away cold, and let the limpets restore some hull health.

Dealing with the Thargon Swarm is one of the hardest things to learn (I'm still learning) and the tougher the thargoid (Cyclops, Basilisk, Medusa, Hydra) the bigger the swarm. For this - it's best to use the remote-release flak-cannon.

Before I re-join the Elite, I will need to see some depth and gameplay mechanics. Please be good.

As I understand it, Odyssey will allow you to walk around on planets, and some areas on spaceports and ground stations.
For the spaceports, my assumption is that you'll be able to trade and grab missions, which we can already do onboard your ship.

Other than that, they have basically added the option of an FPS, which probably isn't going to be as well done as FPS that have evolved well over time (e.g. insurgency).
So no chance to base build, go mining or something that would be "different", just a tacked on FPS.
Can't say I'm impressed.
