Tell me you've never played Elite in VR without telling me you've never played Elite in VR :p

As above, Quest 3 (full fat version not the 3S) will do the job more than adequately and allow you to do so much more outside of Elite as well.

Yeah it's quite a big drop down tbh and I can't run everything as high as I'd like even with a 4090. I have a quest 3, I guess it's pretty much the entry level headset I don't know. I don't really use it much.

Also, as someone who likes varied gameplay, it's rubbish using it with the on foot stuff because it just mimics a screen but with a massive grey box before it looks horrible

it does... but its not out yet and is well over a grand. quite a leap as a "my 1st VR head set" imo and esp as the rig likely to be powering it screams more of a "bang for buck" set up than a money no object just give me the best.

Note i do not actually have a quest 3 either, it was not out when i got my last headset.

I have a quest Pro, which is nice enough as pcvr and a big step up over my (now) lads quest 2 and even a step up from my old headset the Reverb G2 , its better than a quest 3 in some areas, worse in others BUT if i were buying today it would probably be a Q3 i would go for (i do love my pro controllers mind you but maybe the quest 3 standard ones are good enough, i dunno but either way that isnt an elite dangerous concern)

is anyone having connection issues? was working ok for me this evening then I logged off for 30 mins waiting for some thrusters to be delivered to Palin's laboratory to engineer and now getting orange sidewinder error on log in

Hell yeah, sounds like a plan! Given that currently my skills flying with FA off are non-existent, the internal parts splattered all around the mail slot will be a sight to behold!
 
I was using joystick and keyboard (not HOTAS) the mouse is just soooo much quicker for moving to the planets. I hadn't noticed a secondary mode for mouse when using a joystick was available.

Thanks for the Exploration Buddy suggestion, the colony separation measure is an absolute godsend. I have also started picking up a lot more Cartography because before I ignored a lot of planets but the estimate now makes that cost benefit decision so much better.
