*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

So I'm just returning from my first Exo-Expedition with my new Fleet Carrier. I left with 150mill and I'm coming back with closer to 800mill between FC account and Commander account. Which is nice but nowhere near what I'd hoped for. I went out in a direction that was less populated with stars and the systems tended to have less planets so far far fewer planets with biology than I was expecting. I'm assuming that star and planet density might be correlated in general terms. So heading back in to load up on some more tritium and my next run will be to a far denser part of the galaxy. I think I'll also invest in a shipyard for the extra repair and restock options.

But once I'm back in the bubble I'll relax with a few surface CZ's and maybe a bit of Covert action until the wanderlust returns.

If you are quick enough get yourself signed up to the community goal in Dhan (Kidd station), it's 85 million for any contribution currently so a nice quick session in the res sites will get you a chunk easily.

Yup signed up for that and got a juicy bounty, system security vessel did most of the work too :-D I won't be aiming for more than minimum contribution. I'm not focussing on ship combat at the moment.

they must have really gutted the xenobiology payouts

did you actually go down to the planets and scan all the life forms? i made a cool few billion on my jaunt and it wasnt very long. you do need the 1st discoveries to really profit

either that or follow a road to riches route which wont give 1st discos but will give so many high value targets it wont matter.

iirc (its been a while) you need to hand the biologicals into the contact on the space station - so get out of your ship and go to the .. is it vista genomics? place

also quickly to the current CG, ends on thursday. will give you a cool 80mil ish for top 100% and top 75% is easy, also gets you a nice kill warrant scanner.

edit. ninja'd

600 MCr profit from an exploration/bio trip seems remarkably low. You have handed in all your bio data?

For reference my shakedown cruise on my exploration build Mandalay out 5KLy made billions in a few days (iirc 800M explo data and 2BCR for bio data)

It wasn't the pay outs they were fine it was just really difficult finding worthwhile planets. I only found one system with more than 10 bio signs. Most systems either had a several ones or a single 4-7. I rarely bother 1 single bio planets because bacteria can be really hit and miss to find. I think there was a degree of bad luck and like I say very few systems with large numbers of planets. I would normally expect to get 1.5 billion in a day or two in the Mandalay before I got the FC.

You don't need a shipyard for your own ships and storage. You can do that without, that's for others to use it.

Are you using Exploration Buddy? It tells you what exo signals are potentially on the bodies in the systems you scan, so you can have a look to see if it's worth visiting. It also tells you whether you'll get first footfall for the all important bonus.

I'd also highly recommend putting Vista onto your fleet carrier so that you can hand in directly to your carrier. Takes the risk of losing everything out completely!

@CHokKA I was thinking Shipyard Repair Facility for advanced maintenance including SRV. I have Vista and Cartographic's for exactly the reason you suggest. Not heard of Exploration Buddy I'll have to look that up.

Bought myself a Cobra MkV to play with tonight now that they are available for in game credits, that is a very nice ship it has to be said and I can totally see why everybody is saying it is making all other small ships redundant, probably a good few mediums too, going to engineer it for exploration and head out into the back in the not too distant future I reckon, might well take the carrier along for some company but not really sure I can be bothered with the hassle of that to be honest lol.

Panther Clipper has been teased as the next ship to be released by FDev at this weekends PitCon
Yep, just in time for them to release colonisation (hmmm... if you launch a beta onto the live environment doesn't that simply make it released?...) and rake in a shed load of money from arx sales to all those players who cannot possibly stand playing space transport simulator 2025 with the measly cargo capacities of currently available ship options, too cynical maybe? Just about the correct amount of cynicism I reckon :p

I'm finding Colonisation annoying because whilst it's handy having an extra station here and there the mission boards are now awash with missions to Random Sector Star 12345-A, Random Sector Star 12345-B, Random Sector Star 12345-C, Random Sector Star 12345-D, Random Sector Star 12345-F, Random Sector Star 12345-f, and some place with an ACTUALNAME. It's a minor gripe but seeing as I don't do the colonisation thing yet it's my only feeling on the matter. I do think the bubble just got bigger massively and at a pretty low effort. Some real names for these plethora of systems would be quite nice.

What's a good vr headset for ED, got a 5060ti seriously underutilised flying in space.

You need one with pancake lenses so you don't have to move your head to read the different panels. (Older headsets have fresnel lenses which are only sharp in the centre). Quest 3 is probably the best bang for the buck, and you can use it wirelessly if you have a decent router.

If you have lots of money then one of the newer Pimax headsets or the new Bigscreen Beyond 2. Also there's supposedly the new Valve Deckard headset due at some point.

quest 3 is pretty much the best vr headset for most people unless you really want to go high end (which would then involve a new gpu as well). iiwy i would get the full fat one rather than the quest 3 S

you will probably need to cut some settings in some parts with a 560ti but it will still be great. Elite Dangerous is still one of the most incredible VR experiences and still impresses me even after well over 10 years of box heading in elite.

just a shame Frontier Developments do not see it.

£470 and I'd have to reduce settings hmm that's a big ask. I wonder if I could run c2077 in VR with this card? Though I suspect not with RT on.

Maybe I'll wait another generation for a VR experience.

honestly it makes naff all difference between VR medium and VR ultra settings but the performance difference is huge. i cant reccomend VR and elite highly enough - even tho the on foot stuff is just a flat big screen, the actual ship stuff is utterly transformative, not to mention all the other vr titles.

i 1st started vr in elite in an oculus rift development kit which compared to now is like a 10 inch black and white tv compared to a modern one!. and powered by an nvidia gtx 670. this was way under powered for VR (and i did soon upgrade) but even that blew any monitor out of the water (for me at least).

I am waiting for FD to get back to me but that is what I suspect that as well as some speed issues where my ship goes really fast for a few seconds before slowing down again. the clock in the top right of the screen also goes screwy . suffice to say I have done absolutely no client manipulation.
Frontier got back to me with an apology for accusing me of cheating.

As suspected it is due to a bug in their code on the steamdeck and it happens when the steamdeck is coming out of sleep mode but if the game is still running. this includes even if the game was in the ingame menu.
Anyway now i know the cause I know how to avoid it (fully exit the game if i am having a rest from it and not just back to main menu), and FD have put a note on my account that i wasnt cheating and it was a steamdeck bug. they also confirmed that nothing was taken from my account. The 7 day ban from playing with other players has expired now anyway but its not been an issue as i only play solo on the steamdeck anyway due to the performance lumpyness.
