*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Nice :) I'll definitely start saving!

Talking of "Home Bases"... Where does everyone call "Home" in Elite?

I'm a bit of a wanderer at the moment - Haven't found my place :p I'd like to one day get a permit to Sol and make that my home :D

I keep most of my ships in patreus space as he's my aligned power. I suppose Asphodel is my home system since that's where I tend to embark from. It makes a reasonable launchpad out to some of the nebulae

Ok I have an issue. Using Oculus CV 1, playing Elite Dangerous 2.1. After a while 15 - 30 mins, I will get a memory warning, usually elitedangerous.exe and the game will slowly die or crash.

Windows 10 64 bit, Inno 980 TI. 8 gig. Starting elite from launcher.

Anyone else? Any idea's?

Seemingly only Elite and I can make it crash very fast by upping the sampling rate.

I think your post answers your question, it's taking too much memory. How RAM do you have because if you only have 8 I would take it up to 16. Then again it's new tech so might be a memory leak, your best bet would be ED support to start with.

Finally made it to Tier4 with the Farseer the engineer and on the first roll of the dice got a +40% mass improvement on the FSD drive on my ASP. It's jump range improved by a good 10-12 LY, depending upon whether loaded or not. Almost makes the hours of driving around Deciat7b worthwhile

nice... i'm still trying to get hold of modular terminals... got everything else

Just taking my Python back over there. Need 1 more Yttrium to nail it. Just hoping I remembered to blueprint it last time.

Update: Done the Python, for a +30% FSD range increase. Going off to sort out the Imp Clipper now.

Ok... Im looking for Vanadium and Ive been at it for the past hour and cant find any of the frikkin thing. Been looking on Ice Rings and prospecting planet surfaces.... how the hell do you get this thing!

If you look at the news section of station services at any engineers base there will be an entry detailing where resources can be found, it doesn't help with actually locating them once on the surface but does give an indication that you are at least on the right planet or moon. Hopefully a more targeted system will be implemented in the near future as it's somewhat clumsy as it stands.

Gawd yes, thanks Dano, I thought I was the only one that thinks this is a bit naff. Ive been spending helluva a lot of time on this bloody engineers lark and it just seems to be a very focussed grind...

Er ok I still cant find the aforementioned article under news...

EDIT: Screw this.... what a waste of time.... this is what I hate about Elite...

Seriously it is so easy to find and if you really need help google it and you will find lists of planets where it is known to be.

I have googled it and results state that you can find it on a Icy Planet or Surface prospecting.

Can you link to anything more specific?

I seem to remember finding it on Deciat7b. Does that help?

Been busy trying to unlock as many engineers as possible. Now have at least invites to 10, Farseer is at level 5 and over half are at level 3.

Unfortunately the Sirius permit is not working as it should be and I'm a bit scared to go combat bond hunting alone. Otherwise, coming along nicely.
I'm guessing another couple of days to finish unlocking what I'm on, then go to some Nav Beacon farming in the Clipper, bit of surface prospecting and I can start really applying the upgrads.
So far, only really done FSD range increases, which makes it easier to get around whilst working on Engineer work.
I think I'll be updating thrusters, then shields. I like the idea of being able to run away if things get a bit heated. Once I've done that, then I'll go back and work on some weaponry.

When I've done surface prospecting, the following has worked for me:
- When you're landing, avoid the blue POIs. They are typically due to human related items like bases, crashed ships etc, i.e. NOT what you're looking for
- Land in a lit area. Pain in the butt to drive in the dark
- Take account of the direction you think might be worth going, then once on the ground, try to stick to that direction (roughly). Saves you accidentally driving around in circles
- I've avoided very rough terrain. Tried it a few times, and it's just a pain in the butt to drive around. Some CMDRs say they find more stuff that way, but that's not my experience
- Be aware of what you're looking for. If you're not sure, look at this:
http://www.wavescanner.net
That contains examples of what to check for in your wavescanner.
In general terms, the 3 bar stuff is the less useful, 2 and 1 bar stuff often better
- I did find that if I found one metallic meteorite, that there's a good chance that another will be near. Once you've dealt with one, do a quick circle with your SRV to see if you can spot another nearby. Sometimes works

After that, it's just pot luck on what you find.

This is the article I was talking about, I believe it is available at all engineer bases and I'd also imagine it will be refreshed possibly every now and then as it's obviously starting to slip down the list somewhat, unless they aim to give us a better system in the very near future.

Just landed on Deciat 1 and the second outcrop (I had literally just started a timer to see how long it would take, was less than 2 minutes) produced one of each; Zinc, Vanadium and Tungsten :)

EDIT: Yup, The slightly golden looking outcrops are yielding a decent supply of Vanadium and Arsenic for me, my coords are -57.4085, 86.2162, a nice flat plain that you can hooon around on, the outcrops tend to come in groups of three in close proximity :)

Unfortunately I have uninstalled it, just never played it anymore. Shame really as I waited best part of 20 years for the game but I either outgrew it or it outgrew me.
