That's one of the problems with scoring, Chael got the takedowns....but did nothing with them. Non damaging takedowns mean nothing in my mind so when I score a fight I'll look at finishing > damage > control.

Lay and pray needs expunged! :)

It was a good fight though, Sonnen will get Silva and Bisping will get recognition for his skillset.

Getting takedowns and doing nothing with them should not score, but holding somebody up against a fence and doing nothing with it does count? What did Bisping do that makes you want to give him the first round?

Have you ever trained BJJ or Judo?

Takedowns are brutal, most of the injuries I've sustained have been from takedowns (including a cracked rib from when my partner landed on me awkwardly) and those were mostly done on crashmats with training partners who were trying *not* to hurt me.

When someone throws you against the ground with all their force and lands on top of you it hurts, trust me.

Lets not turn this into a Liverpool vs manu type thread :D

Was anyone impressed with Bisping ground defence?

What's next for him now?

to be fair Sonnen is the guy I wanted to see fight Silva again. I really like Bisping but Silva would have destroyed him.

I think Munoz would have beat Sonnon last night had their fight gone ahead.

Take Silva out of this weight class and it would make it very interesting indeed

Yea, I think Munoz would have taken it.

No they don't, they see a fight and don't understand what either fighter is doing, don't understand when a strike landed or hurt and what a take down even is.

I'm not talking about a person who's never seen a fight before. Being a fan means you should know a bit about the sport.

I'd have the round 10-10 (Making it a draw 29-29) if it wasn't a 10-9 must, I felt Bisping dealt more damage to Chael than he recieved.

1st round also had Bisping poked in the eye and kneed low twice. Bisping being no angel did grab the shorts/fence.

Bisping has always excelled at springing to his feet, I think the fact he was able to do it against Sonnen shows just how good at it he has become.

I'm guessing the next match up for him will be against Maia, which he will take comfortably.

I can see it was a close fight indeed but as pointed out the take downs/wrestling and getting someone to the ground is just to dominating and even if a guy like bisping threw a bunch of strikes that landed one take down from the other guy its almost dead even if not favoured with the guy who took him down.

I saw chael coming out stronger and winning round 1, and round 3 owned and controlled bisping about 90%, so I dont see how bisping could have won.

this could be a mma judge thing where there not scoring the guy if he gets back up or escapes... but points go to the guy doing the damage/controlling usualy.

I had wiedman winning and it was in similar fashion he just took him down once damian each round and few jabs just to win....

I thought phil davis looked tired and without any answers usualy in previous fights hes a lot more pushing and dominating perhaps he let rashad get into his head and it just drained him having said that I still thought rashad would take it, at least if anything we get the 2 biggest fights of 2012 ready and who is NOT going to be watching this:

Chael vs Anderson Silva (current champ)
Rashad vs Jone Bones (current champ)
Overeem vs JDS (current champ)

2012 is gonna be a better year then 2011 !

Aye but it just not the springing I was impressed with. He control sonnen pretty darn well when he was on his back always kept space dint let sonnen smoother him even when mounted took very little damage.

It's a shame the fight dint last longer

Personally I scored it 29-29 (10-10, 10-9, 9-10), but unlike the majority of MMA judges I believe that if neither fighter clearly wins a round then the round should be scored 10-10 rather than awarding it to one fighter at random.

I've not seen many people support the 30-27 scoring - including Dana White and Sonnen himself!

I thought the first round was fairly even with Sonnen maybe just edging it as he was very aggressive and pushed the action from the off, Bisping the second and Sonnen getting the third, so it was the right outcome for my money! (plus I'm looking forward to the rematch with Silva!)

My only issue with Bisping is that for a striker, he doesn't seem to have that KO power!

Getting more impressed with the rest of his game though!! I honestly thought Sonnen would dive in, take him down and g'n'p him into oblivion! :p

Sonnen is a joke. Hes not even the top 10 UFC fighters - delusional. I cant wait for Anderson Silva to knock his teeth out.

Out of 31 wins Bisping has 19 KOs..

I only know this as they mentioned it on the broadcast and I found it a funny number as I've not seen him KO many people either.

a TKO counts as a KO. Bisping has never dropped somebody with a single shot in his entire UFC career, he is good at stringing punches together and forcing a referee stoppage though.
