Shogun either needs a break from top competition, or a break from MMA for a while and see if its where his future lies. He is looking old these days, too many wars, too many surgeries, I dont know if he has it anymore. Shame because I absolutely love the guy but I dont want to see him go out like Chuck did.

Credit to Sonnen though, worked his gameplan to perfection, smothering top control, constant pressure and great work to pull off a submission. Liked his post fight interview, I'd love to see a fight with him and Wandy, as I think Silva's TDD is a hell of a lot better than Shogun / Andersons, and it should be an entertaining fight.

Dana had a huge soft spot for uriah halls brutality and quick finishes during the ultimate fighter show, however we might not see him again after those last 2 performances, absolute rubbish.

He seemed more keen to hug and cuddle and shake hands with his opponent than do any damage or try to win. What a wasted talent.

Very impressed with urijah faber after the early round 1 onslaught he survived, great guy lots of heart, and well done travis browne on a fantastic front kick anderson silva style finish on overeem, he survived a blasting early on.

I think shogun should call it a day, become a coach or work in the company but no more fights. he is well past it. Great career though, he was a beast on pride.

+1, too much bro fisting, out of all the fights that night he was the bookies biggest odds on fav to win, im glad he lost the decision as he made a mockery of the sport.. he's ment to be talent, instead he's just a *****

Sadly I have to agree.

Shogun and Cro Cop have long been my favourite fighters, seeing Mirko being knocked out by the likes of Brendan Schaub was particularly painful for me; now I'm not saying that being subbed by Chael is quite on that level, just that that's probably the kind of thing the future holds for Shogun if he continues to let his heart rule his head.

Shogun's only 31 and Mirko was around 38 when he retired - that's so not the same situation. I think Shogun is another 2/3 bad defeats away from retiring, but if he gets 1 or 2 wins in the next few fights then he can still fight for the title again.

I didn't say it was "the same situation", I said that Shogun is in danger of going down the same road.

Shogun has had three complete tears of the anterior cruciate ligament, as little as 20 years ago this would likely have been a career ending injury. His mobility is shot.

As long as his granite jaw holds out he can still compete in slugfests like the Hendo fight; sadly though we're never going to see the Shogun who hunted down and knocked out Machida again. And there's only so many big shots his chin can take before it goes and he ends his career like Mirko or Chuck did. Personally I would like to see him retire before that happens, he is currently 5-6 in the UFC as compared to 12-1 in PRIDE, his best days are clearly behind him.

This might interest some of you guys, gave me a good laugh at least.

New "bare knuckle boxing" promotion, BKB. This is their first event.

The striking is pretty sloppy even by MMA standards, I guess they couldn't find any legit boxers who wanted to be associated with this new promotion (can't imagine why).

On the upside though they did stump up to get Michael Buffer to announce it, and hey they have bare knuckle gloves and fight in a pit (sortof), what more do you want?!?

New TUF is starting on the 4th Sept i think, i can't see anything on TV listings for it though, i presume BT sport will have it?

Why is it called "Bare Knuckle" boxing??

The gloves have a hole in them to expose the fighters knuckles:
