Stop watching entertainment wrestling.

He makes an interesting point though; the UFC is far from above using pro-wrestling type antics to promote their fights, and I've also been questioning how much of the heat between Jones/Cormier is genuine and how much is staged to generate PPV buys.

Stop watching entertainment wrestling.

You don't think UFC fighters pretend to hate their opponent just to increase hype? Ok then...

Chael Sonnen has said in the past that he creates fake animosity with his opponents to generate more PPV buys, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the fighters are encouraged to do this sort of thing by Dana White and co. Boxers do it all the time, so why not UFC fighters?

I think some/most of the animosity between Jones and Cormier is BS.

Where did I say that? On rare occasions the hatred is genuine, and this is one of them IMO. It may be over absolutely nothing and be beyond cringe worthy but it's real, so why wouldn't they use it to sell PPV buys? It works.

Please don't tell me you believe the brawl was staged though.

Hmm, my first thought when I read that was that Jones was ducking DC.

Pretty extreme lengths to go to to "duck" someone since he's scheduled for surgery any day now!

Seriously though, I know DC is a beast in the LHW division but Jones is no slouch, no matter how much people seem to dislike him!

He's steamrollered through the division with relative ease (with the exception of Gus!) and I can see him becoming the most dominant fighter in the history of the division! (that's if he isn't already!)

Cormier will be a test no doubt but I've a feeling Jones will just notch up the level a bit to cope!

No I don't think the brawl was staged, I just think most of the animosity between them is BS. Jones can be a bit two-faced and fake sometimes and Cormier seems like a pretty genuine, decent guy. I think Cormier is ****ed off by Jones pretending to be Mr nice guy in the media but then acting differently behind closed doors, but Cormier still has respect for Jones as a fighter. A certain amount of it is definitely engineered to generate PPV buys.

Stop watching entertainment wrestling.

Edit: Didn't see posts after.

All i meant was it doesn't hurt anyone's side to raise the tension between the two camps. I just think that the video itself looks too cringe worthy for it too be 100% genuine.

Shame its been pushed back now though.

Agree 100% with this. You see exactly the same in boxing.

The wording of your question is hardly conducive to a friendly conversation on the topic is it? You may as well just write "you're an idiot if you believe the brawl was staged".

I don't believe the UFC would be adverse to the idea of staging a brawl if they thought it would boost their PPV numbers (which are currently in free-fall), although the farcical nature of the Jones-Cormier confrontation leads me to believe that it wasn't.

I'm glad it comes across that way because that is exactly what I meant.

Oh for sure. Certain fighters will definitely create animosity to help promote a fight and it's excruciating to watch, but the idea that it's somehow staged with the UFC in the background setting it up is laughable to me.

Oh no I wasn't ever trying to suggest that the brawl was staged, just that the particular issue Jones and Cormier seem to have with each other is most likely BS to generate buys.

Lots of MMA on this weekend;

UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Le @ 10PM Saturday BT Sport

Michael Bisping vs. Cung Le
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Tyron Woodley
Zhang Lipeng vs. Brendan O’Reilly
Ning Guangyou vs. Yang Jianping

Then Sunday morning @ 3am UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. dos Anjos BT Sport

Benson Henderson vs. Rafael dos Anjos
Mike Pyle vs. Jordan Mein
Francis Carmont vs. Thales Leites
Max Holloway vs. Clay Collard
James Vick vs. Valmir Lazaro
Chas Skelly vs. Tom Niinimäki

Thought that was a very good performance from Bisping.

Looked to be a little more snap in his shots, good diverse range of kicks which we've never seen from him before. I do wonder if the eye injury changed things - but it came from a genuine shot.

Dont want to be that guy that calls for fights to be stopped - but Cung took a LOT of punishment there, both eyes swollen, bleeding, barely able to see... I was worried he'd get seriously hurt.

Edit: Just watched the post fight press conference - apparently the UFC were able to appoint their own judges for this event because China does not have its own athletic commission. After the first two fights Dana sacked one of the judges as apparently he was awful. Shocking.

Anyone watched the second event?

Clinical finish for RDA... that left hand took his legs and there can be NO complaints in my book..

Mein looked outstanding.. quick finish for someone who people were worried would be distracted by outside events..

Leites looked superb.. interesting for the division..

Clay Collard looks like he could be an interesting, entertaining addition to the UFC..

The James Vick fight was also entraining.

Good double up of events yesterday... now onto 177...
