Reports that Barao is out of 177 and has gone AWOL. Wow.

Worst PPV ever.

I'm hearing Renan Barao no-showed the licensing and medicals today, completely AWOL, and they're seeking a replacement for Dillashaw. Wow.

Seems so. :(

Breaking @SportsCenter: Barao out of UFC 177 after feeling poorly during weight cut. Joe Soto steps into title fight vs. Dillashaw.

Chuck Mindenhall ‏@ChuckMindenhall 27s
Joe Soto now in PPV main event title shot on 24 hours notice against Dillashaw.

LMAO

Title shot against Dillashaw in your UFC debut, amazing.

Soto has 388 Twitter followers right now. Back to Barao, issues related to his weight cut forced him out of the fight, per @ufc.

just watched Dana's pre fight scrum, he said Barao wont walk straight back into a title shot after this, and suggests he should move up to 145

Crazy goings on for UFC 177 .... in a way, it actually makes me happy, Barao should never have gotten the immediate rematch in the first place.

Saying that, I don't know a great deal about this Soto character, he has a decent record but has never faced anyone of any merit. Could either be a complete demolition job, or the most unbelievable upset in MMA history.

It does seem very quick to step back after a rematch. Should have took time off IMO, chill, enjoy life and come back focused.

Weight cutting can destroy some good fights :(

At this rate the UFC is going to really start struggling. People thought the Fox deal would be a watershed moment and indicated the start of a major upsurge in MMA popularity among the masses. That's still definitely possible, but not if some/most of the big cards are destroyed by injuries. Maybe they should cut down on the amount of PPV events, or maybe MMA training needs to change a bit so that less fighters get injured training. I don't know enough about how they train to know how they'd change it, but it seems to me like far too many fighters get injured training.

Didn't even watch it in the end. The only fight that really interested me was Dillashaw vs Barao. Seems to be a lot of fights/events cancelled recently due to injuries and other problems. Also there's the constant watered down cards full of fighters most people have never heard of or seen fight before, plus champions rarely fighting (eg. Pettis hasn't fought for over a year?!) means I'm starting to lose interest.

That said, I'm totally looking forward to fridays card:

Ronaldo Souza vs. Gegard Mousasi
Alistair Overeem vs. Ben Rothwell
Matt Mitrione vs. Derrick Lewis
Joe Lauzon vs. Michael Chiesa
Nik Lentz vs. Charles Oliveira
John Moraga vs. Justin Scoggins

Soto was pretty competitive considering, felt kinda bad that he got finished like that but in fairness he was well behind on the scorecards. Hope the UFC give him a nice purse increase for basically saving the PPV.

Fair play to Dillashaw as well, basically putting his balls on the line like that with only 24 hours notice and again, helping the PPV ... would Jon Jones have done that? Absolutely no chance.

Other than that, yeah, was a pretty drab affair.

I thought 177 was a decent card in the end - some good competitive fights and major kudos to Soto for stepping up against the number one guy on your debut!

Dillashaw was outworking him for the entire fight but one look at his face tells you that Soto arguably had the better timing!

I'd be interested in a rematch down the line once Soto's had the chance to establish himself in the division!

I know what you mean but MMA by it's very nature will attract more injuries that boxing for example!
