Imo I thought Conor was out boxing Nate up to that point and 170 is Nate's natural weight rather than Conor's right?

Yeah Conor was winning up until he get rocked and started getting desperate by going for the takedown

Nate took some real big hits that would have knocked most people out cold, but that's the trouble with going up a division or two, your power that you're so used too in the one division isn't so powerful in the next

I thought it was more even, Nate getting the breakthrough with the better shots in the end.

And yes I appreciate it was a desperate lunge to the poster above lol.

No diaz is a 155 fighter

All this talk of massive upset really annoys me, only the media hyped up McGregor I never had him beating diaz hes only ever been stopped twice

The diaz's are proper tough mofos I compare them to your traditional Mexican boxer they don't know when to stop, they will never stop coming at you.

Yes McGregor cut nate up but the diaz's always cut, he was never wobbled on his feet by McGregor.

First punch diaz landed it stunned McGregor and he glazed over, if anything I think McGregor is lucky he lost on a submission and not a ko because if he hadn't of tried to take nate down he was going to get ko'd anyway

At 155 with a proper camp I still see an easy nate win

I think McGregor deserves huge credit for jumping up in weight and the way he has handled defeat. I also thought the ladies showed a great deal of 'class' in the way they handled themselves before and after their fight.

HOWEVER, I think the UFC is becoming a bit too much like WWE for its own good. Its getting to the stage where the hype, build up and 'mike skills' are more entertaining than the fight itself. I think they are making a huge mistake by hyping up fighters like McGregor and Rossey only to see those fighters fall short when they are 'tested.'

And as far as 'class' goes, the ladies showed how it should be done because a sport which endorses the type of language used by someone like Diaz will never win maintream acceptance!

It needs a rethink if its going to develop!

Let's not get too carried away. Rousey and McGregor absolutely deserved the push they were/are getting. Both extremely talented fighters, and interesting personalties. Whether you like them or not they're extremely good for the sport.

To me it looked like Connor got rocked and never recovered.

He didn't respect Diaz's hands and he paid for it.

I've said it before, Mcgregor gets hit far too much for my liking .... at 145, he can take it, but even someone like Diaz who isn't particularly known for power wobbled him. Up to that point Mcgregor was absolutely dominating him .... he tired quickly, got caught and tapped out.

Diaz at +300 was absolutely crazy, I wish I had seen that before as I would've slapped some coin down no question, even though I fancied Mcgregor to win.

Tate winning wasn't a good result either, Rousey will be desperate to come back now. Hopefully she won't get an immediate shot.

Forgot to post my verdict here. Diaz brothers have been in the game trash talking and giving there all for a number of years before Conor. Conor surprisingly underestimated Nate and paid the price. The first round was all Conor Nate backed up drastically but as he's only been stopped twice in his career, the dude can take serious punishment especially from a fighter who fights below his normal weight. Shame he got caught in the second and never recovered but think he will focus on his divison now for a while and build his reputation back. I'm still on the fence with regard to who will win a Aldo rematch, had the precious lasted longer than 13 seconds it could have been interesting..

Further that everyone runs from Edgar, nobody will give him a shot using the Benson excuse, the guy is a beast who rarely takes damage.

What is Conor's natural weight?

He's a big featherweight, but there are taller than him in the division. Given that he can safely make the weight without it affecting his performance he's a featherweight.

If you actually look at the top 10-20 fighters in the lightweight division, he'd be shorter than most of them. So he's a big featherweight, and a small lightweight.

People dog on Conor for fighting smaller guys, but then ride Jones' dick for being the greatest of all time. Kinda ridiculous.

I was surprised by how gassed McGregor was by the 2nd round. Why was that? A function of the strikes by Diaz? In the post-fight interview he mentioned a few times that he felt he was inefficient and I don't understand that. He missed a few kicks, but most of his punches seemed to connect.

If you watch the slow mo replays of the first round you'll see Diaz manages to slip or partially slip most of Connors big shots. I think he only truly connected with about 4 of them... don't get me wrong landing 4 big shots is not bad by any means, but when you're in there with a guy with the chin of Nate, its probably going to take more than that to put him away.

Also you have to take into account the extra weight that Connor was carrying - if you compare pictures of him before the Aldo fight to ones just before the Diaz fight you can see he has packed on some muscle. He probably hasn't adjusted to carrying that weight around, and didn't fight at a pace that would allow him to last the full 25 minutes.

It could even be down a straight adrenaline dump, sometimes it happens, your body just gos 'meh' and and you're completed drained. If you watch Carwin vs Lesnar you'll notice the same thing happen to Carwin (although that could be Carwin punching himself out on Brocks basketball size head)

He said in the post fight presser that he wasn't economical with his energy. You can see that he was putting a lot into each punch trying to put him away, not a great game plan considering;

A) Nates a bigger guy than he's used to fighting
B) Nates got a granite chin

I read a lot on the UG and the likes, the amount of **** he's getting is pretty sickening. Yes he talks a lot of trash, but he's entertaining and that's one of the reasons I also like the Diaz brothers. You need characters like these guys in the UFC, everyone rolling out the cliches every fight would be boring.

Just seen a gif of Connors stomp on Nates' knee. Horrible to watch, that could have ended the fight right there. I really don't know how they're legal.

I'd bet nobody likes fighting Edgar, amazing gas tank, good hands, great wrestling, can take a shot. I actually think he's fairly underrated.

He was absolutely robbed against Bendo as well.

Quite funny Aldo has suddenly come out of the woodwork? Had a chance to take a rematch, turned it down, and is now talking ****? Supposedly Mcgregor has no power? Seemed like plenty of power to iron him out in 13 seconds, think that KO did more damage than we originally thought.

yup lost a lot of respect for aldo between 'that' 13 seconds and now. infact it is nearly at zero

still think hes a danger to mcregors title though...

I am not a fan of the submission aspect of UFC how stopping someone from breathing or breaking an arm considered sport and skill is beyond me.

I just think it would be more entertaining without the submissions.

Basically I just want a televised Kung Fu / boxing / thai boxing tournament without the wrestling aspect.

Mcgregor brought more people watching because he fits in to that mould but I guess ground game will always beat stand up strike game.

Way I saw it Mcgregor did gas out but he also got cracked on the chin with a left was buzzed and lunged in like a panic wrestler the exact thing he says people do against him.

If I want to watch 2 people roll about on the floor trying to strangle and or submit eachother i'll watch olympic wrestling.

And that card was a classic example of why submissions will continue to dominate this sport.
