Would L2 do it? Holding that seems to allow some greater freedom over player control in that sort of situation I think.

Can any of you fifa gods tell me what button you press to NOT let your player go towards the ball to get the pass. I want my guy to let the ball come to me. ie i start running and ball comes to me.

L2 + R2 should cancel any movement iirc.

I don't know if FIFA has anything like that exactly, that's one of the few great features of PES (Super Cancel).

Why am I still playing this game. I'm only on 63% of my VP. I cannot score a diving header. My VP has never even attempted a diving header. Bicycle kick? Lol. A backheeled shot has been attempted once but saved, and never again. I also can't seem to reliably do lobbed pass assists. I can't remember which celebrations I have or haven't done. Meh.

There's a list telling you which celebrations you haven't yet done, on the main menu go to Virtual Pro > My Skills & Stats > Traits & Celebrations and then scroll down the list to the unlockable celebrations, there's a checklist on the right hand side telling you what you still need to do and which ones you've already completed.

Diving header is more tricky but here's a half decent guide, he's using PES controls by the way so ignore the bit about pressing circle/B:
