*** The Official FIFA 13 Thread ***

Not at all being dismissive so Ill attempt a reply - please ignore the way its written, its meant to be off-the-cuff reaction to what I read :p
I play some online, but to me a great footie game is one I can play against the cpu (tournaments, leagues etc) over and over again, and never get bored. But I do get bored with FIFA, and quicker each time. I do probably 3 seasons of manager mode on 10, maybe 2 on 11, and I don't know if I even completed a season at all on 12, I sold it within 2 days on the 360, then for some reason thought buying the pc version would be a great idea.
Wow just wow, Ive never ever considered FIFA to be a good SP game since the advent of the 360/PS3 and online gaming. Its like playing SP COD over and over again and expecting it to be fresh every time you play; the AI is so formulaic to even consider that a 'useful' part of the game I think is misguided nowadays. Id never recommend FIFA to anyone looking for a SP footy game and Im someone that actually has played quite a lot of SP games in the last few versions, I cant think of it better than grinding on your favoured MMORPG...
It's basically never enjoyable to me, the number one reason for this I think is the feel of the players. The passing is fine, the shooting, while I don't enjoy it, I could obviously get used to it. This is never going to happen though when every player feels like an absolute tank to move, movement is slow and laboured, sprinting doesn't really feel like sprinting, so much so that the best way to make space for yourself is to spam skill moves. Every turn, every slight movement feels like I'm having to take into account a set of animations that are going to take place before the man goes where I want him to. This I'm sure happens in every modern football game, the days of old where players could turn 90 degrees in an instant are long gone, and for the better. Pro Evo has these animations, I'm sure FIFA 08 did too, the difference with the new versions of FIFA is that I actually notice them, it's never intuitive, it never just happens without thinking, which it needs to in order to really feel like you have full control over what's happeening.
Probably a personal experience but I honestly think the latest FIFA are far more representative when it comes to player movement (something I never can come to terms with with the latest PES demos especially the way the ball moves) and using FUT as a benchmark probably way too skewed towards pace being the dominant attribute (it is faster than the other modes though). Ive found the opposite when it comes to animation where I expect defenders to be lumbering on the ball compared to wingers and so expect animation to suit so for me its definitely intuitive and far more acceptable than it was in previous versions. There is probably some over-animation, but nothing I could put a finger on and say its game-breaking (truthfully Ive never even considered your point in FIFA 12 til you just raised it)...
I do accept that it is a good game, and fans will probably read that and wonder what game I'm on about, cos it can't be the one they enjoy so much, but that's as best as I can describe how I view the game and why. As I said above, I'm at the point where I wouldn't enjoy FIFA with no competition, but to do the direct comparison with PES 2013 just this once, every single area that matters, I prefer in Pro Evo again.
Perhaps Ive misread your intentions but it sounds like you prefer a more simplistic representation of football or just have completely different expectation what a football game should do. Part of this though I think is lost in translation between the vast majority of us playing humans versus you, seemingly, mainly playing the CPU. For me a football game today should only played against humans to get the best idea of how the game actually plays, the AI is just way too simple to provide a useful substitute...

I am a FIFA fan, but understand that each iteration seems to be providing less and less improvements and more and more distractions from the core game; sometimes its useful to see a different viewpoint just to position your own one correctly.

I have to strongly disagree as well, I only found the new PES demo fun because everything is so random and bizarre, it doesn't flow at all well.

FIFA can feel a little scripted at times but at least you are in complete control of what your players are doing for the most part.

I'm really impressed with FIFA 13, I think they've kept the winning formula the same and refined it even more; just like last year. It's excellent.

I suspect its up on US PSN cos I have a couple of PSN friends playing it right now. Ill check later, Im in no rush ;)

Looks Ok to me , but very hard to judge playing against CPU whic just never makes a mistake. First touch you seem to have to turn away from the ball as the ball arrives to keep it underclose control.

As Dan7 said in previous posts , its going to take a bit of getting used to

Of course, I can handle someone not holding the same opinion as me :p.

I agree about it being better against humans, but this for me needs to be based on a game that I do enjoy enough to play against the cpu, otherwise what's the point? The fun shouldn't be mainly down to it being enjoyable to compete against other people, it should be an enjoyable game in it's own right, and then you add on the extra fun you get out of multiplayer. This goes back to the old Pro Evo days, there was no online, sure I played local MP against mates, but I put so much time into the game that the vast majority of it was always against the cpu, this is a standard that has carried through to today and only FIFA 08 has even come close to it. I literally don't play any other type of game anywhere near as much as footie games, this could never have been the case previously if the main time I played it was when I had someone to compete with.

Totally down to taste this one, in the sense that we can have polar opposite views and still both be right.

You know, I don't know on this one. What I can say is that whether it's achieved through realism or a more arcade style, fun is my absolute number one priority when playing a footie game. If you go back to old Pro Evo's, they were actually pretty far from realistic, they were crazy fast for one, and you could turn on a sixpence instantly. But I don't know that the newer FIFA's are poor for me because they're realistic, they don't feel it. There's nothing in FIFA that I can't do in PES 2013, the difference being Pro Evo is much more fluid to me, I feel in full control at all times. You can do tricks on Pro Evo, but you don't get the sense that anytime someone gets close to your box they're going to start spamming the tricks and flicks as you do in FIFA.

SP and MP are of course two very different games, but while it seems you and others can have the MP without enjoying the SP so much (and that's totally fine), I simply can't have one without the other. It's not that I hate playing humans, obviously that's always more fun, but if I don't enjoy the game for what it is in SP I'll never get to that point. I don't need FUT and the like to get invested in the game, if the gameplay is good enough to me, that will be enough for me to be invested in it.

I do think we are trying to look at the same game with differing goal posts. To me a lot of this generations games (or moreso particular genres) have ignored/deferred creating AI to replicate human play when its so relatively easy to add MP nowadays.

My stance is now that SP is pretty much considered optional compared to MP (Battlefield is a great example or any popular FPS).

Unfortunately for your situation I do tend to agree with your viewpoint that FIFA will continue not to satisfy your needs and it maybe best to look elsewhere.

Not sure who you play against but the majority of trickers are usually useless at playing a good game of football, I very rarely use tricks so you maybe unlucky with playing some idiots it seems. Unfortunately when you give people too much control/power they tend to run before they can walk...

Oh I already have, I've been playing both sides since PES 2010, but with PES 2013 I'm finally ready to stick that ring on her finger this year :p.

Well that was surprisingly civil ;). I quite enjoyed a couple of your posts in the PC FIFA 13 thread :D. None of the FUT lot here would ever recommend FIFA as a good SP game of football, I cant vouch for PES, but I know its form, so its easier to see it as greener grass...

Hey I'm always civil :p.

The last thing I'm here to do is tell people the game they like is ****. Sometimes that will be the case, but sometimes it's simply a case of you don't enjoy a game for whatever reason, and others do. I was asked to explain why I hold my view after giving a brief summary of it, so I did. To me nothing in that means others must hold the same view, or that I have the one 'right' view and anything that opposes is wrong.

I like McDonalds, you guys in here like Pizza Hut.............. I actually do enjoy Pizza Hut more from those two, but you get my point, plenty of fast food going around for us all to get as fat as we want :).

Just been playing the Fifa 13 demo and really enjoyed it. Its quite funny playing against Arsenal as Martin Tyler keeps having a go at Giroud for not scoring any goals and then gets his spoint destroyed a moment later as Giroud scores.

I thought I would find first touch annoying but it is fine for me.

The thing I really like is the quick free kicks now. If the ball rolls too far away, a team mate passes the ball back for you to take a free kick. A nice touch there.

Oh I agree, Im just still erked by the previous assumption that the FIFA 12 thread was for FUTers only and that other questions outside that mode would be ignored. When I saw your original post regards FIFA 13 I think I felt it was worth asking just to ensure that at least people felt they could post their opinions whatever their affiliation.

I really dont care for 'bum' threads  and always been bluntly opinionated in my posts

Wouldnt it be completely epic if EA spent some of their profit to give us free DLC commentry thats current, so little phrases or comments about real life performances were mentioned. Im not asking for this to be reguarly updated but every few months such little sound bites would add some great immersion, especially if its around actual played games aswell as individual players...

The FUT thread really wasn't a consideration at the time of my first post tbh. I didn't want to be that guy that comes into the thread to do nothing but slate the given topic. It's not like I had any common ground, I couldn't say I loved FIFA 12, here's why I don't like FIFA 13 in comparison. Would have been very much me coming in as a non fan, saying guess what, I still don't like it. That's not the kind of thing I usually volunteer to go on and on about :p.

I think that is what they have done with this version of the game. The commentators don't actually name the team or player that they are talking about. They get round that by saying the "home team" are currently 4th in the league or they show a picture of the player and start talking about the player involved.

E.g. Arsenal have a back up goal keeper and when he makes a save, a picture of Schezney (can't spell his name) appears and they start saying that he isn't fully fit yet but he may have some competition to ensure he keeps his place in the starting 11 when her returns.

If they did have some DLC with updates through the season that would be truly epic. I still think what they have done is very nice touch.
