Not sure how much you have, so I'll just name players that are great but can be cheap and expensive. I assume you won't have that much and you'll not want to get the club in debt so I'll obviously avoid the players like Ronaldo :P I've put a star next the players I would buy if it were me. Zarate took a season to get going for me, but when he got going he was unstoppable. Rene Mihelic is great mostly because he's so cheap and turns out great (although still highly usable early on in the game), turned into a Wonderkid after 2 season. Bought him for 95k, now worth 7 million after 2.5 seasons. Ever Banega is godlike, definite addition you should be looking at to strength a DMC or MC position.

* Ever Banega - DMC/MC - 4m
Bruno Formigoni - DMC/MC - 300k
Pablo Piatti - MC/AMC - Anything from 100k -> 4 million
Omar Esparza - DL/DMC/MC/ML/AML/AMC - 2.2 million

Left Winger
Sergio Mota - AMLC - Unknown price
* Rene Mihelic - AMLC - 95k I got him for, turned into a Wonderkid

Striker
* Mauro Zarate - FC - 2 - 5 million
Kevin Doyle - FC - 12 million (godlike in this game)
Bogdan Stancu - FC - 400k - 2 million
Genero Zeefuik - FC - 200k (He won't be great, but get for future, he becomes amazing)
* Andrey Arshavin - AMC/FC - 8m (he's the best player in my 2010 Sunderland game)
 
Oh one I forgot, look at Eddie Johnson (striker)... should be able to pick him up for about £7m - £8m. He's extremely fast, strong, agile and has a great finishing stat.

He's 20 on my game, worth 7.5m, and my scouts still think he'll get better than Barzagli, who is arguably the games best DC a season or so in.

At best he'll become world class, at worst, he'll become a very solid 2nd or 3rd choice.

Went for him again. I offered £2.5m and 25% this time and they agreed.

He wants £700 a week and £20k signing on until 2012 (2009 now). Going to see if I can stretch that to 2014. :D
 
A friendly request: Anyone with any WORKING links to SS08 kits, could they post them here? I've just played a game with West Ham and I noticed their kits weren't showing up on the Overview page. For some reason there isn't a third shirt file for West Ham in the pack. I've just re-downloaded it and still nothing. So if anyone has any links to an EPL 2008 pack in the SS08 kit style with ALL the home/away/third shirts for ALL the teams I'd be most grateful. :)
 
Ok just finished my 4th season in the lower leagues and did the lower league treble lol Having fun down here with my team of choice and next season i am attempting to end up mid table in League 2 in my second promotion to there.

Also managed to sort my tactics out finally and it seems to have cut down on the more blatant issues of closing down etc the new patch introduced last year.

I started a new game (well..) resigned from Fulham in 2011, and waited for a bit, now joined Plymouth (facing relegation) they were 22nd when i took them, with 20 games played.

Now they are 13th, with 28 games.

Just signed Anelka for £400k, and trying to sign Bentley from Villa for £3m.

I have Riqulme, who i got for £250k, Marlon King for backup (free), Arron Hughes, Bogdan for keeper :).

Forming a good team here, gonna aim to TRY get them to play offs, looks unlikely atm :p.

The game really has some astonishingly large transfers.

Ronaldo to Real Madrid, £49m
Navas to Arsenal, £46m
Richards to Real Madrid, £33.5m
Villa to Chelsea, £66m :eek:

And here is me, manager of Hyde and never spent a penny on a player :( I'd love just to be given 1% of any one of those transfers...

I've just paid £70m for Fabregas. Just under half my budget gone in one shot. Still, it was better than the £109m they wanted during the summer :)

I remember a game i did, created a whole team, added em to championship, didnt lose :D.

All players made from scratch, then purchased a few.

Sold some player for £78m, another for £103m and also a few of £50m.

The most ive ever spent in any FM game was £60m on Fabregas in this current 08 save.
Prior to that, it was £54m on a regen GK in season 14 of my 07 save.

The game does get daft with transfers though. It very quickly gets to the point where your spending silly money for a player not worth that money.
Especially buying from teams in your own league.
For example, IRL Milan payed £8m for Oddo. In my 07 game i'd have had to stump up £30m+ for him.
Its the same in 08 as well.
Its not too bad at first, but the more seasons in you get, the silly'er it becomes.

Newcastle wanted £27m for Milner :eek:.

Still in my first season with plymouth, they were facing relegation, now im aiming at play offs.

Currently (as im wining) they're lying in 10th, 3 points away from play offs with 11 games to go.

The team im currently building will be OK for the premiership, but the likes of Neville, Distin, Miller may need replacing.

Fulham have ruined my team too :(.

They sold half the team i built, one of the best players being Aguero, for......£9m....to arsenal.
