I think after a decade of CM/FM, I think im in a position to say that Bogdan Stancu is the best signing I have made! £175k he cost me at the start of the season. Played every game, always has a good attitude and has never picked up an injury of any kind. And most importantly, his goal scoring record is ridiculous.
 
Spent all evening and this morning trying to fix my tactics...Completely broken since the update :(

Was playing as York and with my old tactic I did the whole blue premier unbeaten...Now I am struggling against everyone on my new game with the same tactic, Nothing seems to be working though, Its getting fustrating.
 
Just started a new game and in the first friendly I had Vidic set to near post flick on for corners. Had a corner and it was to be kicked to the near post. Vidic got the ball and headed it in for a goal. :)

If this is the one thing the match engine has changed in then I am happy. :D

My tactic is still working well and if anything bit better now defensively after the closing down/marking fixes. Same with long shot issues its been toned down and strikers seem to be scoring more in 1 on 1s or snap long range efforts.

Decided id have a bit of a fun game, so i created a database, created a whole new team, added a few players, then bought the rest.

Looks to be a good team so far, and i *ahem* put Liverpool down in the Championship, so ive got a few of their players now :p.

Beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge atm, at Half Time.
 
Just started a new game with Sunderland for the 8.0.2 patch. Was going to just continue my other one, but I wanted to start a new one with the new players that were introduced to the database and all the transfers and stuff.

Pre-season went well, won all 4 games: 2-1, 2-1, 3-1, 5-0. My first games of the season are mega hard though. Man Utd away, Chelsea away then Arsenal home, horrible start although I guess it gets them out of the way. Brought in lots of players, and got rid of lots. The goodside is that my squad is much stronger technically, but as a result of changing so many players my assistant manager is reporting they have a "worrying lack of cohesion" so I guess it's a case of having to wait and struggle through until they start working together.

Well this new patch, touch wood, is great for my tactics. :p
I usually play well, miss loads of chances, and win by 1-2 goals.
Two games, 4-0 & 3-0, both away. With my strikers playing exceptionally well. :D.
 
Probably because it is the most used formation so human players will do quite well with it and so SI code the AI to battle it. I also heard rumours that in a previous patch of FM08 MCs got poor ratings. So say you had 4 players across the midfield, the wingers would be OK especially if you made them move to AMR/L positions but the two MCs wouldn't do well. Probably making the human player have to favour a 4-4-2 diamond formation. A DMC and an AMC nowhere near the MC position and thus better. Or so I heard. :p
 
Already have the patch. Just did'nt understand if there was another file as a data update.

Think I'l start a new game. Not sure who to be though. Could go with a Serie A or La Liga team instead of the premiership.

Any changes that need to be done to the DB?
 
SI used to have two versions of the patch. Just the patch and a patch/db update combo. This may have meant more work for them and harder to support. Probably a lot easier to just release a patch/db combo. If you want the data update then start a new game, if not don't is probably their mantra. :)

I can't play FM and manage any other Premiership team than Manchester United. If I took over a Serie A team it'd have to be AC Milan and Liga A, Barcelona or Valencia. Most likely Valencia. :)
 
Well Im Barca at the moment, but yesterdays result has made me want to try United again. For some reason I've never really enjoyed controlling my own team in FM. In fact i rarely control any team in England.

Cheers for clearing that up.

The team choice its pretty much the same as me. Might start a game with Chelsea though and try to get to the top of the hall of fame. Sell some of the big stars and get my own players in.

Since getting FM 08 though, Ive only had 1 save game. Currently in 2013 after managing, Man Utd, Liverpool, Italy and currently Villa.

Time for a new game me thinks :)

I wouldn't play as Chelsea personally, not because I hate Chelsea (I do!) but the idea of an interfering owner etc. Just not the challenge I want. :p
