**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

That's odd. I cancelled my Google Panda and bought an iPhone X. That lasted a week before I returned it (phone is awesome but it runs iOS) and ordered a Panda from CPW on Saturday. It arrived yesterday! I'm so happy I chose that colour scheme, it looks and feels amazing. I have it in one of the fabric cases now which is also great.

That's great news. Pleased for you. I thought the Panda was striking.

I pre-ordered my Panda in early October and still waiting on CPW!

Go figure.

Just called up the EE store I pre-ordered at. They have received no 2XL's yet and there is apparently no way for them to check either. So I just have to wait. The lady did say that if one comes in before my pre-order she would keep it aside for me. Why would one come in before my pre-order? It makes no sense.

EE, you are a truly awful company to deal with.

Your situation with EE is similar to mine with CPW. I also pre-ordered and subsequently learned from this thread that others have received their Panda 2 XLs by simply walking into a store last week and having it delivered next business day!

CPW initially said 20 November but they seem to have no way to confirm this or let me know if there is any chance of one before then. Totally in the dark.

Fingers crossed.

I really don't know if I can live with this blue shift... As soon as I tilt the phone, even a little, the blue starts encroaching at the top...and all of Google's interfaces are white pages... Makes it even worse...

I assume you do not agree with Google that the blue tint "issue" is in fact "normal" for the phone. Many people who have commented here seem to think that in day-to-day use it is barely noticeable.

From what I have read in reviews, the Pixel 2’s OLED display scored a color temperature of 6969 Kelvin, with the Pixel 2 XL achieving an even cooler score of 7035 Kelvin. This means both displays have a slight blue tint, though they’re warmer than last year’s Pixel XL.

But if it is a continuing issue to you I fully understand.

To me the pure Android experience, the idea that I will be getting the first of any new software updates from Google, the camera, Google Lens, and whatever AI and AR improvements Google brings to market will come first to the Pixels, outweighs what I fully expect to be barely noticeable over time.

Anyone else notice the introduction of Google Lens into Photos on their Pixel phones? It is apparently in preview mode. According to 9 to 5 Google, this is expected to be extended soon to Google Assistant, incorporating it into the sheet that pops up when Assistant is launched. Look out for the update.

Currently it is a feature in Photos, so I can trigger Lens when I look at a photo or image. It is the third icon at the bottom of the screen and if it knows the image or scene it identifies it with information.

Cool.

For those who received the free Google Home Mini with their Pixel 2's and are experiencing Google Home for the first time (I appreciate many are waiting for the separate delivery), any early comments? Are you enjoying using the Home and what are you favourite uses for it?

I have three Google Home devices and will pass the Mini on to a family member who has not experienced it yet, because they live abroad.

According to Bloomberg, there are now 6.5 million Google Home devices in US homes and I suppose with the free Mini pre-order offer now in full swing, the number will rise significantly both there and here.

I expect many Home Minis (at £ 34 retail) to be stocking stuffers this season, esp as Apple announced yesterday that their higher priced competitor, the HomePod (US cost $ 350), will not be launched until "early 2018", thereby missing the big holiday season. According to some comments I have seen, they say the delay is mostly due to Siri not being ready and seriously lagging Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

I've just published a 16 minute video, just on the screen (Can't post, I'm sure you can find it). For me the biggest shock is the (anti?) polarisation. Wow. Amazing.

Hi I watched your first vid unboxing and enjoyed it but cannot find this one. Is there a link you can provide?

Those weren't my sunglasses... (not the ones I wear day to day anyway, they're in the car and are more expensive... I think polarised)

I've certainly been driving and had to keep sliding my shades down to be able to read the directions on the phone. If that is fixed with this screen, I might lean towards saying the blue tint is an acceptable trade off.

I don't particularly mind your super pro Google posts, but it's these bits I don't get. You have one, so you know what they're like. This sounds like a Google Rep trying to pry positive comments from people.

As I say, I don't mind, but to me it's these that make people think you work for Google I would expect! :)

Ha ha, love it,'memory taking weapon of choice'! Glad you were able to grab some magical moments though.

Simple really. My interest is in finding new and interesting ways to use Google Home. I keep hearing that most people use it (and Alexa for that matter) for playing music. I do too but have found so many more uses around search, broadcasting, connecting smart home devices, etc that I wonder if among this group of tech savvy users that music too is the most common? I was hoping that among new users who receive GH Mini for the first time that they tell us how they are using it and perhaps in discovering new uses that I can learn from.

Go figure.

CPW promised a delivery on 20 November (or on launch date whichever sooner) when I pre-ordered in early October. So the launch of the 2 XL came and went and not a word from CPW despite numerous attempts to update status. No one at CPW was able to tell me why they did not get the phone at launch. Frustration followed and so did a gift certificate on my next purchase.

Knock on door this morning and dpd delivered both the Panda (2 XL) and the Home Mini in one small package!

No notification from dpd. Lucky someone was at home to receive. Wife will be happy with my Pixel XL soon. Mini going abroad to another family member as the three full sized Home devices in the house is more than sufficient.

Un-boxing this evening. Will share comments over coming days.

Hoping black Friday has some deals on the accessories. Wishful thinking??

Yeah, and I hope one of the accessories includes Pixel Buds in Black and White to match my Panda 2 XL! At the moment they are out of stock on the Black and on back order on the Panda match. I am on the wait list. Hoping to use my CPW credit towards my Panda Buds.

ok i've opened the box and now setting up my pixel 2. the blue is quite shocking to view from the side. nothing too bad, i get why they designed like this and look forward to the improvement with sun glasses, however as someone that watches programmes on my phone before bed, and the phone is often perched against my bed cover in awkward angles, i suspect the blue may be slightly noticeable.

whats the view on cases? i'm most concerned by the choices this time than i've ever been before due to the stupid well that's created by the curved screen

In view of your concern about the "well", why not try a Live Case made by Google. I have mine and it makes my phone so very personal with a photo I chose to display on the case. I chose the single thickness and it is perfect.

Walking around London today and otherwise pre-occupied with one thing or another, I did manage to see a few London buses that have been repainted white and blue completely, all advertising the Pixel phones.

Last year many billboards on bus stops and tubes showed the first Pixels but they seem to have taken it to a new level this year!

With Google breaking ground officially on their new headquarters building in London this week, I guess it is safe to assume you will see lots more ads around with their growing stable of hardware products.

Google Lens (the visual search feature) now built into my Pixel's Google Assistant. Hope you have received the update.

So when I squeeze the Pixel 2 XL or say "Ok Google", the Google Lens icon appears on the bottom right of the screen allowing me to access Lens easily. Until now, I have only been able to access Lens via Google Photos.

I have been using it around London today and it works well in identifying buildings/landmarks.

My Panda 2 XL will soon have the Panda Pixel Buds attached!

Ordered my Pixel Buds on the Play Store with UK delivery on 14-15 December.

Will provide comments on the Pixel Buds in due course. Really enjoying the Panda phone.

Blue tint issue for some a complete non-issue for me. Have had plenty of compliments on the new phone from friends who are iPhone users especially.
