**** The Official Google Pixel C Thread ****

It's a pity they keep trying (and missing), although this _was_ their best effort yet, besides the N7 (2013). Just wish there was some competition from Android, some real competition, and some investment in app design and dev support. Alas, I fear we'll see them flogging the Pixelbook to the 13 people that'll buy them (yes, I'm still stupid enough, if I had the chance) and be giving no serious effort to producing a decent iPad competitor, nor be backing the devs as previously mentioned... we know they can do it to a degree - Pixel phones - so here's hoping.

I know I nabbed a 2017 iPad and sold it out of frustration again last year, but this fruit-themed pro-fondleslab I've now ended up with is absolutely light years ahead of the Pixel C.

The Antutu 7 results are quite interesting, as the GPU tests get more detailed the GPU really does shine.

Not bad for a tablet from 2015.

OnePlus 5 T - 214674*
CPU - 73098
GPU - 85491
UX - 46887
MEM - 9198

Pixel C - 206961*
CPU - 46132
GPU - 113546
UX - 40596
MEM - 6687

Managed to sell my Pixel C last night for a little over than what I paid for it.

Will wait it out now and see what this years offerings bring iPad wise, otherwise it's a 10.5 Pro for me.

That's nice I guess, you couldn't pay me to use an iPad or anything else running iOS, it's just not an option. Android or Windows for me.

I do look back fondly on owning mine, and do hope that Google manage to sort a decent tablet strategy in future... I got the 10.5 iPad Pro last month though, and it's absolutely the right decision and device for me now. Android tablets are too far behind now iPads are running iOS 11.

Stuck with the Pixel 2 for a phone though, given that it's kicking the backside of the iPhone for how I would use it. ;-)

Unrelated information to divert away from actual topic ;););)

Getting a tad frustrated with my Pixel C and am fast losing faith in Google's remaining stance on Android tablets. I still refuse to upgrade mine to Oreo as I've seen far too many issues and complaints on a slew of forums so I'm still running 7.11.

Lately I've become highly frustrated in the wireless performance on the tablet. My aging Samsung Tab S 8.4 slaughters it in this area. I use Solid Explorer to browse network shares containing DSLR photos (3-4mb jpgs). When I move downstairs and attempt to access these shares, the networking speed is quite slow (5ghz), whereas the dated Tab S8.4 instantaneously displays images with much less lag. I haven't checked raw network speeds yet on both devices tbh.

Battery performance remains absolutely stellar, and the UI fluidity is very smooth for the most part - there is the odd bit of stutter when exiting apps on occasions. Netflix is a total mess, likely on their end as I keep getting error messages when attempting to access various shows/films - the app is a mess in general.

5Ghz range drops off quickly, Aluminium housing vs plastic probably works in the Tab's favour.

I've never had any issues with Wifi on the Pixel C.

Yeah I get that but I really don't think that is it. I guess I need to do some speed tests as my wife does have an iPad Air that I could run speedtest.net on, along with my samsung. If it comes down to it I'll simply switch the Pixel C onto my 2.4ghz wifi and see how that fares.

I really think it might be time for you to update Android soon. :p
Admittedly I have fresh installed the last few major Android releases on mine, but I am yet to experience issues on this new release.

My WiFi is also pretty grim, but thankfully my place isn't too big and Chinese walls aren't exactly well built.

The only issue I have with the tablet is apps forcing themselves into portrait mode when connected to the keyboard. you would think Google could implement a simple fix for that, simply lock the orientation, you can download apps from the Play Store that do this but it boggles the mind as to way Google don't do it automatically.

Seems pretty simple, if keyboard is connected lock orientation to landscape.

Just updated to the latest version of Oreo...and Netflix isn't even on the google play store now. Totally baffled as I can't find it anywhere.

Edit: Ignore. A reboot sorted it.

Had the dreaded lock screen pattern bug on this last week, and it was a pain in the rear.
I was tired after work and figured I'd just be lazy and wipe the device over the internet as I don't keep anything on there that's not backed up. Mistake. In China, so had to then faff around and find a VPN I could pass through to allow it through to Google authentication servers.

Reading about Android 9, I'm pretty bummed that we're not going to be getting it. Hopefully, this'll be solved by awesome third party teams, seeing as Google are so pitiful.

Anyone else getting freezing in 3dmark and Antutu? Seems to freeze and then loop two frames over and over, the tablet itself is still running and you can exit the app but that's as far as they run. .

Games all seem fine though, looks like Google broke something before abandoning support. :(

I've never run any benchies on mine. No issues on Oreo thus far for my typical daily tasks. Battery life is still stellar and those speakers are just quality for youtube videos. Still can't believe Google abandoned it for the Clownbooks.

Do you mind kindly giving 3dmark a go? It would be nice to know it's not just my Pixel C.

Yep sure. Just installed 3D Mark but I'm not sure what bench test to run. There seems to be four in total?

Running the Sling Shot Extreme benchmark, it managed the first demo just fine but seconds into the second demo (Sling Shot Extreme Test 1) the screen starts flashing and then it locks up. Pressing the back button allowed me to return to the benchmark screen just fine.

I managed to repeat the above 3 times in succession.

I'm pretty such it was Sling Shot Extreme, should be the test it recommends.

Remember to turn off the demo in the options to save you little time, unless you want to watch it. :)
