***The Official Guitar Thread***

Good stuff, it’s a good exercise…I like how it’s challenging but fairly relaxed and not intense like pushing speed exercises

I never fully corrected the hand/wrist angle thing btw..maybe cos stopped playing classical really but def helps

It really does.

I'm finding some very weird chords with my little finger nailed on the 7/8 on D or G. It sounds like some sort of demented Joe Pass improvisation.

Where's the go to place to sell kit these days? Got some bits sat around that I never pick up so may as well let them go on to someone else. I know about reverb, any other recommendations?

Reverb, eBay, The Fretboard Forum.

I normally would go to The Fretboard first, then probably Reverb then eBay. eBay recently got rid of Paypal and it can take a day to get your money rather than instant.

I tend to use ebay but their recent changes have damaged that and it's now swamped with shops and businesses rather than private sellers. Reverb seems to be far too US dominated and as a buyer I don't like their policy on how they deal with claims of fraud/defective goods. I can see why sellers might want it but it's too lax. There must be a way to be better to both sides without the risk of ebay for the seller, or the risk of duds with reverb. If only there was a way people could try things before making a transaction. Maybe there could be a physical location where the goods could be held, and people could visit to try them out. ;) Anyone think that might catch on?

There is also Facebook Groups, there are a couple UK based. The Fretboard is UK based. The Gear Page Forum is US based but has UK users, most of which are also on the Fretboard.

I used to use gearpage for general forum stuff (not sales) a few years back but they have some weird moderation so I gave it up. Will check out the fretboard if it's more uk-centric.

TGP is US-centric and may I say, quite conservative. The Fretboard is 99% UK based users, it's run by UK residents and lots of UK guitar, amp and pedal builders post on there, including shops like Peach and Coda.

Having been playing guitar for like 20years now, due to other situations in life, really neglected it for a good 8year. Always wanted a US Fender, so just went nuts and got one. Something I'll hopefully keep forever now.

You had me looking again for a second there...

Anyone in the know, it has 75th anniversary badge on the back of the headstock, do all Fenders have that when made this year? As it's not a specific anniversary model, but serial number is from this year...

1 year either way doesn't matter much for value, it's the place of manufacture and hardware details that count. what pups, pots, and workmanship. etc

We may be moving house which is going to give me a bit more practice space. I’m tempted to build a practice booth or convert a room with soundproofing and good acoustics. Has anyone ever seen a build or project log to give me some ideas?

This popped up in my feed a couple weeks back.

Can anyone recommend any really basic recording style software? Just really for somehow plugging a guitar into a laptop and recording playing, then recording over different layers maybe?

I'd like to get a high-quality amp, but a very low volume one really as it would just be used in the house, but not keen on annoying neighbours as they work shifts in a hospital so don't want to take the p.

Do you have an audio interface? Kind of necessary to get anything decent into the laptop/PC. Once you do then something like Reaper (which has an unlimited free trial period) works well for me (and you can use it to try out some plugins, virtual amps and effects and whatnot, some of which are free and really good!)

I have nothing, I have seen some cheap USB style interfaces for around £100 Focusrite Scarlett Solo.... would that do what I am looking for? Or do I need to go through an amp first?
