***The Official Guitar Thread***

The thing about the Casino vs say a ES-335 is it's a fully hollow body and IME those are always a bit too light and clonky. Make lots of noise when you handle them, feel a bit plasticy, etc. The trapeze tailpiece doesn't help as it makes the strings feel loose and rubber bandy due to to much extra string behind the bridge. It makes them too easy to bend and feels loose and cheap.

Come to think of it I've never liked Casinos :D

Andertons is doing a sale at the moment on PRS SE and S2.

A John Mayer Silver Sky SE is like £599 and the bargain IMO is the S2 McCarty at £1.3k, with £900 off. These things normally go for £1500 used.
Andertons pricing is all over the shop. They have some decent deals sometimes, but when it comes to Gibson or Epiphone, they’re always around £200 more expensive than the likes of PMT or GAK.

I was looking at the Epiphone 61 SG standard. Anderton’s want £799 and GAK are asking £625. That’s just a ridiculous price difference

I've been informed from another forum, a user who was a PRS dealer, said that the reason some of these PRS are so cheap are because the stock of these were destined for another country, but for some political or whatnot reasons they aren't. So some countries got these cheap and being end of the year and 2023 models is coming out soon, they are just essentially giving them away at next to no profit. He also said that 2023 base price for all will go up so you will never see a Silver Sky SE for £600 ever again. According to him.

It’s a great price, but I’m happy enough with my 50’s classic vibe, don’t need another strat.

My best mate has got a collection of Beatle guitars and the Casino in his hands cost him a fair penny because it's an original.
It felt really cheap when I played it so they were that bad back then.
It was also awful to control because of the feedback it kept making.
The worst thing he bought was the Hofner Violin bass, it was horrible to play and wouldn't stay in tune.
Apparently McCartney used other basses in the studio because of how awful the Hofner was.
That's crazy. I really thought the original ones would be a lot better in build and playability. No wonder you can hear Lennon slagging off the Casino in the Get Back doc when he's in the studio! Ha!

It is odd isn't it, why they kept using instruments that clearly weren't great to play, especially McCartney and that Hofner. They could have chosen anything they wanted.

Definitey not a fan of the Casino, that's for sure!!

I asked my other guitarist tonight who also has a collection of Beatles guitars and he said exactly the same thing, it's one of the worst guitars he's got .

That's brilliant ha, I do agree with him. It's truly an awful guitar. As much as I am a Beatles fan, I have no desire to own one again. If they were priced at a couple of hundred quid, maybe, but not for what they are asking for them and even then, I don't think I'd play it.

After the drought of no NGDs for a long time, they are like buses at the moment, well... definitely no more for now!

The Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop P90s came in..... and I bought it. Slightly annoyed that the price of these has increased, they have gone up in price by £200 everywhere in the last week or so. As I was about to price match.

It is heavier than my R9, but to be expected. Looks to be pushing near 11lbs, but it is very resonate when unplugged. Finish and build quality is very good, it has less tooling marks that my R9!. It's stamped 2021, but the Gibson checklist tag states it was checked out in July 2022.

It also has a darker rosewood fretboard than my R9! Absolutely love the gold top finish, it's not to everyone's taste (and wasn't originally to mine) but it looks amazing. In the light and goes from a dark yellow to a sparkly metallic gold.

Neck feels great and the lighter wood stain on the back of the neck and body looks fantastic. Some lovely grain on that neck too. but more importantly, it sounds fantastic. I really like the P90 pickups. On a Les Paul it's a different animal compared to a LP with humbuckers.

I've slightly lost my mind but you only live once. After not playing for a long time I started again at the end of August. Significantly more seriously this time with actual lessons.

When I first started I originally had a Tanglewood Les Paul style which whilst quite cheap was lovely. I sold it for a charvel model 3 which I still have, and always kind of regretted it. It was never set up right and that was one of the reasons I stopped. Fast forward to August and I started to tinker with the charvel which is now 30 years old. It's set up probably the best it's ever been, after truss rod adjustment, Floyd Rose balanced, action height sorted. It needed some of the saddles shimming but ultimately the tremolo is done, the saddle bolts are rounded and a few of the holes they go into are threaded. It's getting a new Schaller lockmiester next year, which leads me to the actual point of this post..

I'll need something to play and continue to learn on whilst the charvel is in bits so like an idiot with a Les Paul itch from my early 20's, I've put a deposit down on this lol (thankfully before the recent price increase)

Going up to Richtone on the 3rd to make sure, like Harry Potter's wand, this one chooses me.

I know, I know I'm stupid but you only live once and it will only be spent on gas and electric otherwise

Very nice, similar to mine

I have spent a whole week, with several hours practice, trying to nail a single bar of Usher Waltz and I'm still not happy with it.

I am going to finish this piece if it kills me!

I bought a Squier Tele last year and I’m blown away by how good it is, I play it as much if not more than my Fender Strat.

This is my 'go to' guitar that sits behind me in case I need to learn something quick.
It was one of many guitars I inherited when my dad died earlier this year.
I tried to sell it for £50 and the other day I gave it to my guitarist to try and he said it's one of the best Squier's he's played and it's worth about £200.

I decided to finally dust off my gear from my house move and set it up. After about 5 hours of playing over two days, I’ve absolutely rinsed my tendons - nooo.

Must say though, I love how quickly it comes back.

This time next year…. Wembley! Maybe…

Ok, maybe just not having all the gear no idea :D
