If you are careful plenty of used guitars at low prices in near mint condition. People often buy guitars , realise how hard it is to learn to play and give up. PRS SE singlecut is a great beginners guitar and often sell second hand for about £200 for the older version, fender Mexican strats and telecasters similar prices depends what you are after really.

Squier Bullet Strats are lovely guitars, lightweight, extremely comfortable to play, about £100ish, and good quality for the price. I'd personally go for one of those.

I have a Squier Vintage Vibe Strat and that is superb as well.

The thing with buying guitars more than anything else, in my opinion, is does it speak to you? Does it want you to play it? Does it make you want to pick up any play it? If it does, that's the perfect guitar for you.

I even apply this philosophy to gear - pedals, pickups, amps etc. - if they make you pick the guitar up then that's what you need.

I have a Gibson Les Paul Zebrawood . One of Only 400 ever made , never play it :o

My Fender Telecaster and Gibson SG get the most action and the Fender Deluxe Strat if I want some whammy bar action :p

I learnt to play on a hohner strat copy , wish I still had it tbh ...washed dishes when I was 15 to pay for it.

I slept , pooped , ate, with that thing 24/7 then I bought a USA telecaster second hand and had it for years , then I came across a 1998 collectors edition telecaster 30 seconds with that and the former tele was flipped

My american standard Tele then flipped

For this...

1998 Collectors Edition Telecaster

In 1998, Fender produced a limited run of Collector's Edition Telecasters modeled after a 1955 with gold hardware.

Its sublime :D

of stuff i say ---->
My first guitar was a Marlin Sidewinder - possibly the worst guitar in the world. Definitely the worst trem. Action a mile high. I spent a year washing dishes in a hotel kitchen when i was 14 to get the money to buy it as well. That was all i had for about 18months, it still amazes me i ever stuck with it.

It did have an inlay shaped like a fish at the twelfth fret though, which was the one cool thing about it.

I finally upgrade to a pointy headstock single pickup Washburn G-2, which stayed with me through all my teenage metal bands. This model in fact:

https://reverb.com/uk/item/1627439-rare-washburn-g-2-1980-s-black-single-pickup

Was ok, but i knackered the screw in trem arm in the end. Sad times. :(

I also had a Hohner acoustic around that time, but a friend dropped it down a flight of stairs at a house party one night.

That SG is just beautiful Easyrider. It has been top of my list for a second guitar for years but I still haven't developed my playing enough to warrant it! To me that is the perfect spec too, I love the batwing pickguard, fretboard is beautiful, perfect cherry finish and I have flip flopped many times between if I think the covered humbuckers or p90s would be best. As I have a strat already the humbuckers would probably be best.

Very nice. Is that a classic?

No, it's a 2011 SG Special 60s Tribute
I got another one in a biscuit/tan wood, much lighter in weight too.

I got 5 Gibbo SGs, 2 as described plus:

A Pete Townshend Tribute in Polar White
A Batwing junior p90 Special converted into a 2 pup Special
A SG Classic [ with P90s ]

Plus:
A Gibson EB0 Bass
A Hofner Violin Bass
A Epiphone Casino
A Epiphone Firebird Joe Bonamassa tribute.

How are you finding Rocksmith?

I just bought it again for PS4, had it on the 360 but that isn't plugged in anymore, hoping to get back into playing.

My guitar isn't coming until the end of next month now :(, but my techy/musical housemate has brought both her guitars back from home, so I might ask to borrow the electric just to have a try :D. Let us know how you're getting on with it and happy new year (soon) :).

Wish i was in a Ramen Shop Counter
http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2018/USA/SG-Junior-2018.aspx

The 2018 SG Junior looks cool but crazily overpriced for a basic single coil guitar.

I don't suppose the poor Dollar/Pound rate helps but at $1300 in the US
even the usually competitive Thomann's have it at £1146
Eeeeek!!

I bought a new, full fat one of a kind colour, limited edition (blah blah) PRS for that much a few years ago, crazy how prices have gone up in the past couple of years.....very glad I got what i wanted/need before this rise.

The blue one.

The brown one is a Custom 24...again, I think I paid £1249 from a sale, brand new.

If it hasn't moved in that time, then it should be in tune. The only thing that's likely to happen to a guitar in storage is due to humidity changes. If it's been in a cupboard or whatever the whole time then I'd hope it was in tune!

I'm always shocked how someone can spend so much money on equipment when they're still learning. I doubt my whole collection adds up to the price of a single one of these instruments and I've been playing for about 13 years!

I've known and still know many guitar/amp/effects collectors (I'm one) but apart from one other bloke, Raymond is the only one I know who doesn't really play.
The other bloke has collected the gear of Jimmy Page and can't play a single note but as furniture in his house it looks bloody awesome.
Just remembered a non player who collects all the gear of Alex Lifeson from Rush but I've never seen his stuff.
