***The Official Guitar Thread***

I have 7 guitars in total lol I think that's enough for now! I play this tele the most, perhaps its because it's relic anyway, I won't notice another scratch lol

It's a Palir Titan, only weights 7.4lbs, that PRS 305 there is actually lighter if you believe that, so is the Custom 24 too. PRS makes really light guitars.

p.s. I did almost buy a Fender Vintera Strat last month when Guitar Village had a 20% off....but managed to stop myself because I really have far too much gear.

I love that Tele something about the colour and the relic just talks to me. I’m an acoustic player who’s always hammered after a les Paul but every time you post that up I go looking at reliced Tele bodies!

The relic is not very realistic on close inspection so i can take it or leave it, it's like someone dragged it across the car park kind of damage rather worn through, I am half tempted to take some 400 grit sandpaper to it myself lol

That said, It is a great weight Telecaster, the neck is amazing on it, soooooooooo smooth and it resonates like an acoustic guitar.

I oddly quite like an over done relic they all look fake so why not go a bit silly? it probably was dragged across a car park people do all sorts of stuff in you tube videos I’ve seen!

Fair point, if it's fake, make it obvious huh!

This is the back of the neck.

Found a great deal on a Gibson Custom Shop Historic '59 Les Paul Standard VOS, 2018.

I think my quest to have a Les Paul in the collection is over.

Weighs in at 8.6lbs from weighing scales. It definitely feels like an instrument that has had a lot of care and attention on it, hard to describe. The smell from the nitro is intoxicating, even though it was made in 2018 it’s still very strong and hits me when opening the case.

I did quite a bit of reading up on R9’s before purchasing and it seems that 2018 was when Gibson started doing things right again on these.

I do love strats, but felt like I needed an LP in the collection. Originally I was looking at a standard LP but then this caught my eye for what was not a huge amount more. Was very nervous until it was in my hands, shipping via air, but turns out this was a Gibson employees guitar that he wanted to get shot of quickly, to grab another guitar which was on sale, ironically, not a Gibson :D.

Didn't realise this thread existed for some reason.

Just upgraded my 1998 stamped Squier Strat Affinity that I've had since about 2000, it was originally an SSS setup with all white plastics.

Converted it to an HSH setup with a pair of Oripure humbuckers because of this short review by a guy I follow on Youtube, and a Fender pickup of unknown origins in the middle position, believe its Alnico V. New 3 ply black white black pickguard, Gibson style knobs, a nickel plated cover for the bridge pickup (purely for aesthetics), 500K pots, a new 5 way switch, a new mono jack, and new strings. Also had to get the dremel out to tweak the recesses in the body to allow the neck humbucker to fit, and the larger capacitors on the back of the new pots to fit. And had to drill a few little holes because I bought an 11 hole scratchplate instead of an 8 hole by mistake and it was easier than sending it back. :p

Also cleaned and treated the neck, aged the headstock and applied a custom decal. I am unsure about the decal, but I can always sand it back and start again so I'm not too bothered! Wish I'd gone with "Franken Stratocaster" instead.

Currently having some issues with fret buzz, and because I haven't played this guitar in 6 years I can't remember if I've introduced the problem, or just made it more noticable by fitting 11's where it previously had 9's...

The chaps over on the Squier Talk forums have been very helpful though and I'll be running through some basic setup stuff today.

Get those poles up on the bridge pickup! Did you fit the cover yourself? You may have issues with microphonics, hopefully not too likely if the coils are already wax potted.

Send me a Trust if you want some setup tips, spent about 5 years as a guitar tech :)

With the heavier strings you might need to adjust the trem springs if it's rasied from the higher tension and/or neck to help the fret buzz. You might also need to look up raising or lowering the pickups when you've got the rest sorted out.

I did it all myself yeah, thanks for the the tips. How though do I raise the poles up? The y seem to have a, hex shape in the middle so I guess... Stick a hex driver in?

I'll check the trem springs. I think it's sat flat though.

@Acme

Quoting from the other thread in GD.

Probably just a lucky guess based on what I remember looking at then. :p

I think the class 5's may have a slightly different bridge though.

Afaik the difference between Class 5 and regular Historics at the time is Class 5 have the weight relief holes whereas Historics don’t. I guess it’s a way of them using heavier Mahogany backs without putting them in the bin. They are all long tenon joint, same pickups from that era and all made in the Custom Shop side by side.

The guitar is in great condition, the case has been around the block though.

That's what cases are for though! Lovely guitar. :)
I'm beginning to wonder if maybe you said what model it is before somewhere and it was in the back of my mind.

And yes they may be Gibson top hat knobs... Two Amber and a black. :p

Thanks. Tbh, since I got it, my brother in law has played it more than me and he lives 200 miles away! I play my telecaster a lot more. You know what they say about if you want to play a guitar, leave it out. Well, leaving a Les Paul out scares me, a knock will snap their necks in 2 pieces so for a guitar that is just left out, I leave the Telecaster out instead, all the others I keep in the case for safely and not take up space in the living room.

@2StepSteve where did you get it from? The US via Reverb?

From Reverb, Netherlands.

That's a nice LP you have there, I like the finish on the neck.

I’m definitely more cautious with my LP and it always goes back in the case after playing. Gotta love the headstocks on them! I have a roadworn partscaster that I built last year, which stays out a fair bit, another ding in that just adds more character.

I don't think Les Paul comes with a Satin neck do they? I have really grown to like that from my Tele, the glossy finish can be a bit sticky
