Disappointing I'm afraid. I was waiting months for this until my X1900XT died on me and forced me to buy an 8800GTS, now I'm actually glad I did as I've had a card that performs the same and actually overclocks without an extra power dongle for months. Now that there's actually some competition Nvidia might bother writing some drivers.

I would've felt stupid if I had waited this long for this card. That's not a dig at anybody who has, I really would've.

It's a fair point. I do feel stupid for waiting :)
Ah well, it's live and learn really. I really feel that AMD have ballsed it up for everybody this year.

- Forced most of us to migrate to Intel.
- Forced a lot of people to wait seven months for HD2900.
- Allowed Nvidia to keep prices up without driver support through lack of competition.

Used to love AMD, now they're kind of a disaster on all fronts. :o

I bet ATI would've had this out months ago if they weren't under AMD's thumb.

That about sums things up. Hope AMD comes back to the enthusiast end market with some better hardware before xmas :) We could use the competition to keep prices down.

At least current hardware is still ahead of the software - something to be thankful for :)

Ouch this is bad, from Hardocp

The Bottom Line

“A day late and a dollar short.” Cliché but accurate. The Radeon HD 2900 XT is late to the party and unfortunately is bringing with it performance that cannot compete. The GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB is $50 cheaper, performs better, and draws a lot less power than the 2900 XT.

This is as good as it is going to get for a while from ATI. The GeForce 8800 GTX will still dominate at the high end of the video card market. Of course we do not know about DX10 games yet, and there is no way to make any predictions how that comparison will turn out. As it stands right now the Radeon HD 2900 XT, in our opinion, is a flop. ATI needs to get its act together quickly. It needs to push out the mainstream cards soon and it needs to deliver a high end card that can actually compete at the high end of the market.

Its an Fx5800 according to those as well, AMD should have left ATi well alone. :(

Well as stated in another thread hardocp also slated the conroe saying it didn't boost preformance much either.

If you believe HardOCP then your Conroe was a waste of time, and you could have got similar performance from an Athlon processor.

See where i'm going?... ;)

lol I bet these people who read all the reviews buy Custom PC magazine every month. . . . . . "suckers" lol :p

I've just heared reports that the EX Iraqi Infomation Minister has been using the HD 2900XT from his Prison cell & he said its totally crap as well. :(

At standard clock speeds there not much difference between a C2D and AMD dual core cpu...

Overclocking is where the C2D leaves the AMD way behind..

Nope, they're posting. Just not reading anything, listening to anything, or using their brains.
Are you just going to launch ad hominem attacks one after the other at 8800GTS owners all day long? You must seriously be bitter after today's news if this is all you can do with yourself.

I actually thought it wasn't bad when that Vr-zone review surfaced, but now they all coming out its a clean sweep across the board for the GTS, and the killer is it needs more power than a GTX. :(

I can't understand what he means... the 8800GTS has been shown to be the current victor... so why is he flaming the owners?
