So what if they were right? It doesn't make the fact that the original posts were misinformed, which is my point.

lol? They made a correct prediction but they were misinformed? wtf? It was blindingly obvious from: reviews, US prices, listed UK prices on other sites, Gibbo's review (where he talked about "sub-£300 prices") and common sense. What more do you need?

Nothing misinformed about it.

Nope, but did anyone know that before they filled 4 threads up acting like they did?
The only thing people have done is quote reviews and make fair comment. I haven't seen any trace of triumphalism or other anti-AMDATi 'fanboi' behaviour.

The facts may hurt, but don't blame the messengers.

How was it "blindingly obvious"? Did you have the prices told to you by ATi?

All people did before about 15 minutes ago was guess at it's price/performance. Nothing you can say will change that fact. Therefore before 15 minutes ago, they were misinformed.

In the end though, what do the reviews tell us? The relative performance, as they compare the card to others priced around it. However, without knowing the actual price of the card, nobody can judge how good the card in question will be.

It's all about bang for buck. That is the true measure of a card. It's performance, heat, noise, size, etc. against the price. In some cases, cards can be slower than others, but become a more attractive option with the right price tag.

Having seen the launch prices of these cards, I have no qualms about recommending people away from them (in fact I already have done) although i'm still a tiny bit skeptical about those reviews - I like Anandtech's reviews myself.

Guessed.

Exactly. :)

Sorry, I should have said "educated guess" shouldn't I, but then again you'e being so stupidly pedantic that that probably wouldn't have mattered...

Seirously mate, there's brand loyalty and then there brand-loyalty, stop with all this "defend ATI against anything and everything" rubbish, you're making yourself look a bit silly. :o

Mate, stop now. You're making yourself look like an idiot.

Ati made a bad, expensive card. That's bad for you and it's also bad for me. Let's comiserate with each other. :p

Checking the ocuk prices of these HD2900xt cards, I'd say theres another reason to buy a 8800gts instead. Couple that up with apparent noise, power consumption, performance and its a no brainer if you ask me. I read on one of the reviews that ati would/might be looking at reducing fan noise in a later set of drivers, but again, too little too late. These need to be priced closer to £250inc vat, the cheapest, the "HIS" one is still £276inc vat.
Very disappointing launch this I reckon.

Not sure how i'm making myself look silly, maybe by disproving everything you've said with facts? That is what a discussion is about right?

I think you're the one making yourself look silly tbh.

You've pretty much echoed what Richdog said. Do you not like losing discussions either?

I'm afraid I'm with Richdog on this one.

I argue more than most around here at times, but you're making even me look tame today.

I'd still argue that anyone running Vista is better off with Ati as their Vista performance is a lot better.
I'm just deciding on Asus vs HIS :D
Also, performance wise, it does look like a good middle ground between the GTS and GTX.
And I praise everyone who trusts reviews such as Vr-zone  .
I will be getting one, and then I will make my own benchmarks :p
