The Official "How Much I Earn/What Job I Do" Information Thread

All the majors for spot, bias towards Cable because it's typically so liquid and 'trade-able', intraday positions on most of the instruments aside from metals which we play longerterm.

All the majors for commodities and FX? I wouldn't like your membership bill as it doesn't sound like you're also going in wide for rebate! :)

this thread depresses me, I apparently have a level 6 education, work 35 hours per week in retail, and I earn nowhere near what I should be taking those other things into account, esp considering my age :/

I think this thread skews what people earn. Remember the UK average is somewhere around £26k, this threads average seems to be around £40k.

The salary you get and by what age largely depends what industry you work in and how specialised your skillset is. Your problem imo is that you work in retail, it's much more limited in long-term scope than professions such as IT, and especially Accounting etc, where if you work hard you can often expect to be on 40k+ by 35, and significantly more by 50.

I'm not suggesting that it is wrong or morally questionable, only that it is daft to pin your financial security on the turn of a card. For everyone who wins there are 5 or more that lose.

No more daft that stacking shelves at Tescos for £6 an hour or, <insert equally soul-destroying low-end job here>

Like I said its all relative, I for example pay 800/pcm rent thats without bills/council tax/insurance. So out of my wages around 1000-1100. Thats just for living in Aberdeen.

I think it's probably wise to take a lot of the posts in this thread with a pinch of salt tbh.

Not only will you have a decent proportion of relatively high earners on a busy technical forum, but the main ones who post will be the ones who feel happy with their current salary. I haven't seen many posts that need overly much salt.

What [Level] is a masters degree in terms of Education [got Master of Pharmacy Degree aged 23], and what qualifications do people have to get a decent job [that pays 40K] in IT between 22-25?

Yeah whatever, it wouldn't be the first time we've seen people "exaggerating" their wealth/importance here.

I think he's right really. I haven't posted in here, because there's little point. It's pretty mediocre. I'm happy with it but it's not worth writing home about as it were. Lots of people probably feel the same.

If I was on £50k though I'd probably tell everyone.

There's bound to be a couple of fibbers though you're right.

Also the nature of this forum does attract a disproportionate amount of IT bods, many of which do pretty well for themselves.
