***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

Had as soon as i got it but it was slow then just failed , However I will try again. thanks

Keep trying, there's loads of touchpads trying to update.

Luckily mine just downloaded the update itself then notified me it was going to apply the update in 30 minutes if I didn't tell it to do it right now (after I plugged it into the charger).

how does the overclock effect the battery life ?

I think the original power draw is 500ma. This bumps it up to 650ma. So I suppose you lose around a quarter. But the speed... Oh my! I was a bit unimpressed last night but now I am happy.

bug bears are hotmail doesn't work in browser for me, gmail doesn't fit properly in browser, keyboard doesn't capitalise properly, no kindle yet and this is dying out for a two finger swipe gesture to scroll through a stack.

Am very tempted to do the overclock is 1.7 much better than 1.5? Only thing I noted is putting the warranty at risk but I guess no risk no gain. :) Might still have 2 16GB ones inbound as I forgot to cancel my Dixons order and they rang me today to say they are going to try and fill the order. Might then offload one and keep one for really playing around with.

does the 1.5 not invalidate warranty anyway?

there is a kindle for web os app.

Rather unimpressed with webOS so far, aside from the pretty multitasking.

System update kept failing at random points while downloading, so had to enter dev mode and use the PC application in the end.
Webstore doesn't seem to work with Halifax Visa debit cards (for some people at least), even though competing app stores work fine.
No split keyboard.
No asian language support (this is killing me).
No tabbed browsing.
No way to organise browser bookmarks.
No way to force open keyboard, so some flash sites are impossible to type in as the keyboard doesn't open for them.
Copy/paste is a real pain as I can't seem to find any way of precisely moving the cursor.
I'm probably missing something but I'm having a tough time trying to reposition the cursor while typing.

Those are some quick niggles off the top of my head. The biggest problem for me though is the wasteland of the webos app store. As an example I found just one single Japanese dictionary app (iOS and Android have hundreds) which is J-E/E-J EDict only and so slow at looking up words that it's practically unusable in comparison to any iOS dictionary app I've ever used.

It's certainly an inferior product for anyone doing language study; no IMEs, no epwing viewer, no Anki, no monolingual dicts etc.

Here's hoping that Android gets ported soon.

That doesn't work over here, it's not on the store at the moment. Is it due back?

It's not released in the UK yet, end of the month apparently (we'll see). Awhile back you could use Impostah to install the US version. But I can't get that working either. Tried adding all the testing feeds as well (if you want beta versions). Also tried before and after the OS update. Unless someone has the ipk?
