*** The official HTC One S thread ***

My bro ordered a hard drive from a competitor and it was delivered by yodel, however, he had the same problem as you (but worse :p), status showed it as being in the same place/state for 3 days or something like that and so he sent multiple emails over a couple of days, but they never got back to him, so he had to ring them instead and they then finally delivered it the next day, however, the box came with a big dash in the centre , thankfully the hard drive was fully working and passed the health checks, hopefully you won't have the same problems.

I personally can't see NFC being a big popular feature (especially for payments) for the rest of this year or next year and most likely won't properly take up till 2014 or later (of course you never know what the future holds).

But it would have been nice to have had anyway....

I've been reading the reviews on some of these online mobile phone retailers.........oh dear , almost put an order through to one of the companies but that could have turned out to be a big mistake. The one im ordering with now is slightly better......

There do seem to be a lot of smaller companies out there!
Hopefully dialaphone should be ok, they're one of the larger ones?

When i was cancelling my 3 contract all they kept going on about was how 3rd party companies put up the cost of the contracts after a few months :/

I would advise you not to look into it :p

Its one of the reasons I wasn't interested in getting a deal with cashback of any description(even though they work out better), no doubt it would be a complete hassle to claim from some of these places....

If theres no indication of it getting dispatched today im going to ring them up and see what the crack(its next day delivery, apparently) as I must have the phone thursday at the latest

I did a cashback a few years ago and was a true PITA, I'll never be doing one again! and that was with phones4u

Thanks :) But I don't like flip cases one bit either! :D :p

I am looking at the case mate barely there, official HTC hard case or possibly a case mate soft touch case (this one covers all edges).

Yeah there isn't much on the market yet, but I expect it to pick up in the next few weeks as the mobile hasn't been launched every where yet and it has only been out for like a week and a bit now :p

Can't say I'm keen myself but no one has much in stock worth bothering with yet. I too will be looking more down the product line you mention but for now it needs protection in my pocket when 'at work'. Even ordered a double pack of HTC screen protectors for the same reason. Sand and grit are my reason for those damned things. No Martin Fields available and only brand I've been able to make a top job of applying.

A MHL (Mobile High-definition Link) adapter is simply a "connector" that allows you to connect your mobile to your TV etc. via HDMI, which then means whatever you do on your mobile will be shown on the TV as well so obviously this is great for streaming recorded videos, films etc. to the big screen e.g.

Ah, right :)

They weren't reviewed very well at all, so its no surprise. My order has shipped this evening according to the website, I was a bit worried it would take ages to carry out a credit check or something similar as I've never ordered a contract phone online.

It will be delivered by royal mail which, in my experience are pretty good around here so fingers crossed i should have it tomorrow.

What a pair of scallywags

There was talk elsewhere that the phone in the vid is a dummy but if it isn't I wonder who pays for this 'testing'? Like the other vid of the phone being scraped across gravel - what did he expect

Just received my HTC one S! :D

Charging at the minute, so will play with it later.

I will be doing a full review within the next few days and will post a link to it when done :)

RAM

Just been having a poke around on my phone and in the apps setting I can see the currently running apps with used and available RAM, current usage is:

Used: 403MB Free: 278MB = 684MB

Now my work colleague has the One X and on the same screen his total equals (give or take) 1GB.

Both phones were reported as having 1GB, am I incorrect or am I looking in the wrong place?

In phone Identity it reports 1GB.

^ The amount of RAM allocated for user apps/customization can vary. I assume your colleagues One X has more cached apps, buggy firmware (There have been several reports of One X memory leaks) or simply uses more due to the higher screen resolution.

Three seems to be resolute on not giving any sort of deal on this.
Got a call from retentions, started by offering me 300mins unlimited texts and 250mb of net with a samsung europa for £8. No thanks!

After trying everything she just said she couldn't make any sort of deal with the S so I'm off to another network!

I'm out of contract and my PAC code expires on the 17th May, does that mean i will be charged up to that date even if i use the code tomorrow? Thinking if i order it now or worth waiting.

It's a nice phone and sure you'll find it OK. My Mobile network seems a little flaky though has been better today. We'll see how it goes. Not had too much time 'playing' but it flies compared to my old Moto Defy+. Can't find much to grumble about :D

Yeah been playing with it for the last 2 hours or so :D Was waiting for it to fully charge when turned off but it was taking forever so I just turned it on whilst charging and started to set it up :D (but for some reason still wasn't fully charged [still orange LED light] even after like 3 hours)

So far I am very impressed with it, the speed and smoothness is unbelievable, haven't seen one slow down yet even when installing multiple apps and browsing at the same time etc. the screen is perfectly good, you only notice the pentile pixel arrangement when you have small white text on a black background but you still have to put your nose to the screen in order to notice it easily :p

The battery seems great so far as well (even though it wasn't fully charged and has been hammered for a few hours at about 70-85% brightness, will post screenshots later)

My only complaint so far is that some apps have the menu on the bottom of the screen, which is just wasting screen space, however, this is a ICS thing so hopefully when ICS is on more devices the app developers will change this......

And I have tried BS player lite to play 12+GB 1080P MKV films (over the wifi) but it stutters a wee bit :( so I will try different players to see if there are any better players.

So far I think I will be keeping the HTC keyboard, dialler, text and browser apps and will be going back to my usual layout for the launcher (mrk's layout ¬_¬ :p :D)
