*** The official HTC One S thread ***

No physical menu or back button (though that's ICS rather than specific the phone model, I guess there are good reasons for it)

I've put the Virtuous rom on it. With older apps not built for ICS you lose screen space because there is no physical Menu button and you have the 3 dots at the bottom.

The Virtuous rom makes the Switch window key the Menu key and by holding down the Home key it has the Switch window function. I think this is a much better way and you no longer lose screen space.

I recommend the official HTC One S pouch, it's a very nice fit more so than the official one for the X which is a bit slack.

I personally hate cases like that (they do look nice though) as I am more likely to drop the mobile trying to get it out of the pouch :p And just a bit too fiddly overall, when you want to take the mobile out quickly to check something out.

Where are all the Samsung Galaxy S2 owners who slated the Sensations higher QHD superior resolution because of the blacks / colours of the S2. Similar thing here, theres a noticeable difference between the blacks/colours of the X and S.

Think you'll find most S2 owners chose their handsets over the Sensation due to other reasons than the screen, i.e. the slower SoC, less RAM, pitiful internal storage (1GB vs 12GB) and Gingerbread with TouchWiz was far faster than Gingerbread with any form of Sense.

Think I'm getting this on payg + giffgaff
Seen it on three's website for £370, anyone know if this is the best price? And if its available in store? Thanks!

Been late for work twice now because the clock mysteriously seems to lose 10 minutes at night. Is it just me? anyone know a fix? I see clocksync but it says it needs root to auto sync...

edit: I wonder if it might be related to using juicedefender? how knows.. maybe I'll try removing that..

All that lets the S down is the mediocre screen or I would have had one for sure, if you coming from something with a 800x480 screen for example it will be great but if you have used a 720p(like on the x) there is no going back.

This a quick video I took on my One X with the ICS Camera+ app from the market and its far far better than the HTC one, so says to me its only a software issue that needs to be rectified and I was moving it fast to pick it up, certainly much faster than you would shooting video normally, not that it worries me because if camera and video was the important factor I would have got a I4s.

Indeed! And the lack of storage as well.

Although the screen is still very nice overall and the only other android mobiles that have a better screen (IMO) is the X, GN and a couple of sony mobiles.

That video does look a bit better jabbs, but it still has that "HTC jerkiness" to it :(

I am still trying to see what deals I can get, really want to go back on o2, but the deals for them aren't great and don't come anywhere close to that T-mobile one :( Tried CPW to see if they could match t-mobile but on o2 instead, but they were shocked at the deal and said there is no way they could go that low (on any of the networks). So going to ring o2 later and see if they can improve this deal a bit:

BTW, see this part here:

UK Wi-Fi via O2 & BT Openzone

I have had a look to see the exact terms for this and if I am right I think it means that I can use any hotspots around me for free with no limits. Could someone confirm that, please? :)

The video actually looks fine to me when played back on the phone (the main use I imagine), there are certainly stuttery bits but it looks better than it does on Youtube. This is the X though of course as well.

I think NFC is another fairly important one, it supports Android Beam properly and that's surely going to be useful as more people get new phones (possibly).

Two problems :-(

Had my phone now over the weekend and am still very much loving it... However....

Signal strength appears down on my old desire in all areas, meaning places I could send messages I now get that annoying unable to send message and also mobile broadband which had a faint signal now has none.

Second problem is fending off the One X owners. Knew this would be a problem but I chose the S because it better suited my needs. Any advice on how to get rid of them? ;)

What MHL adapter and case has everyone got?

Haveing finally got sick of of my Moto Defy+ and succumbed to the lure of the One S I bought a cheapie case off of Eblag.

Terrapin Genuine Leather Flip Case For HTC One S / Black, Cream Inside. Item number if you want a look 400290772620 (hope I aren't in breach of forum rules?)

No probs with the chipping issue others are having but for work will feel happeir in a case. I'll let you know if it's any good when it arrives. Not a right lot available yet but sure there are plenty in the pipeline?

Maybe because it's first thing in the morning ... what is MHL adapter?

As to One S after the Defy+ I'm liking a lot. Not missing the rebooting and other silly little software issues. Battery life seems not too bad at all. On board storage not great but I'll manage even if albums (music) carried is restricted to current. Early days.

Scratch test, im actually pretty impressed with how well it fared after the things i've been hearing about this phone.

It would have been better if he just rubbed it against some of the more abrasive clothing materials for a while though, nobody does that to their phone and expects it to remain in good condition, crazy guy

Thanks :) But I don't like flip cases one bit either! :D :p

I am looking at the case mate barely there, official HTC hard case or possibly a case mate soft touch case (this one covers all edges).

Yeah there isn't much on the market yet, but I expect it to pick up in the next few weeks as the mobile hasn't been launched every where yet and it has only been out for like a week and a bit now :p

A MHL (Mobile High-definition Link) adapter is simply a "connector" that allows you to connect your mobile to your TV etc. via HDMI, which then means whatever you do on your mobile will be shown on the TV as well so obviously this is great for streaming recorded videos, films etc. to the big screen e.g.

It did hold up pretty well considering how easily the black model chips and the back of the mobile didn't look to bad after he give it a good "spit and polish" :p

But the guy seems like an idiot lol, just because the mobile doesn't stay mark free after that good battering doesn't mean that the mobile sucks and in fact I am sure every mobile would come out badly marked after that (apart from the defy possibly) so therefore using his logic :p every mobile must suck! :D

Just got a PAC code from three, fingers crossed I'll get a call for a more competitive deal on the S. Othwerise I'm going for this http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/basketnew.aspx?addoc=24OR1403A9&qty=1&ins=1

That doesnt look bad when you take into consideration the freebies, like free The Times subscription. I've gone for a cheapo T mobile deal for £21 a month with 750mb data, 100 minutes and unlimited texts, I rarely use my phone to call people so thats all I need. I was thinking of going pay as you go but its cheaper(assuming I spend around £10 a month) to just get it on contract.

I've been reading the reviews on some of these online mobile phone retailers.........oh dear , almost put an order through to one of the companies but that could have turned out to be a big mistake. The one im ordering with now is slightly better......
