*** The official HTC One X thread ***

Nice video Andy.

They are ultimately very close, the one issue I have with the One X is that the battery is generally disappointing.

I know I've posted battery figures earlier that were fairly decent and usually the battery is fine, but over 30%~ brightness the screen absolutely hammers the life out of the battery.

It can also warm up a bit and when that happens it accelerates the drain too. I was using it outdoors in the sun on auto brightness so it was warm and on roughly 100% brightness and it dropped like crazy!

You didn't mention storage in the video, or more importantly the screens. Which screen do you think is better?

I totally agree about the power button placement as well, it's much easier to press when it's on the side. Shuffling the phone around to turn the screen on isn't really ideal. The home button waking the phone is fine anyway on the S3 though.

True, both rather big omissions :(

The One X has the edge with the screen I think, but even side by side it's not all that big a difference.

Is the SGS3 battery so much better?

Eventually it will be, from my testing it was on par with the HOX on their current states. An extended battery in the future will close any battery related issues for the SGS3.

But I'm going to ignore this issue and retain my HOX. It's too good to give up even though the SGS3 is a good phone itself.

The screen, sense, build quality, looks, feel, camera, are in my opinion better for me personally, but others may disagree.

How will the extended battery work? I hope they can use the pogo pins

I mean for the SGS3 that will eventually get an extended battery. But who knows for the HOX maybe we'll get an extended batter case or something. But it shouldn't be an issue tbh there are plenty of portable emergency chargers available.

Has anyone else got the new Foursquare app? It's the first app I've seen from the market that doesn't have the 3 dot menu!

Shame it's not one I really use. :o

Yeah starting to get a bit fed up with this 3 dot button now

HTC need to sort this out.

I have quite a few apps that don't have the 3 dot menu button.

Also have a lot of apps that do, however, also have the ICS app button at the top right/left of the app as well...............

It's more up to the app developers to sort it out rather than HTC, but many of the app developers don't know it exists as they are using the Galaxy Nexus which has a menu button. I guess HTC could sort it by changing one of the buttons, like the custom roms do, e.g. holding down the multitasking button acts as a menu button or something similar.

At first I thought that as well, however, after the first update for my S by HTC, the 3 dot menu was then removed from the youtube app?

Wish HTC would do that as well! :p

Quite amusing trying one of these out briefly today. Thought the display model just had a printed sticker with icons etc, amazed when I realised the phone was fully functional! Could probably use it for softproofing :p

Root and changed the app switcher button. It's the only way. Yeah it voids warranty yada yada, but touch wood I haven't returned a phone under warranty... ever. And my post three phones have been HTC.

I thought exactly the same when I was looking at it in shops, and every time I pick it up now (albeit a bit less because it's never on 100% brightness).

As much as I like the SGS3 I just don't like the look of TouchWiz generally. It's features are good as in codec support but Sense has the much better Social Network integration. Simple things like Facebook birthdays in calender...

Can someone confirm that the SGS3 does not integrate Facebook events with its calendar?!

It's both imo.

ICS has been developed to not have any buttons, so apps optimised for ICS should have software menu buttons. But then how many ICS phones have no buttons and how much extra work is it to just do that?

And HTC should have done some surveys/decent user testing, because even the smallest amount of either of those would have told them that people want a menu button rather than a task switching button (whose function is duplicated by the long-home button anyway).

It's the same story as the HTC Desire HD which had a search hardware button. Didn't use it once in two years.

It's easy for HTC to sort out.

They need to add an option under 'Developer options' to switch the function of the multi-tasking button to that of a menu.

Job done, zero problems.

They won't do this though, because they're stupid. :p
