*** The official HTC One X thread ***

It's frustrating a lot of big-name Android handsets are not coming out with SD card slots. For me, expandable memory is a key advantage of Android over the iPhone.

I agree and as an owner of the Galaxy Nexus, I'll definitely be wanting a phone with a MicroSD slot and for several reasons.

  1. The infrastructure of the UK is too poor to get consistent and fast mobile internet, this makes streaming not exactly viable.
  2. Streaming media is very inefficient. With listening to music from a MicroSD card, your phone is awake as Android's media server requests a wakelock. Streaming again keeps the phone awake but you also take a hit through the radio draining the battery due to constantly transferring data, especially via HDSPA.
  3. You could argue against the above by saying someone should plan and make the songs available offline that you wish to listen to, but I want my entire collection available as I have no idea what I want to listen to later in the day.
  4. I can keep all my music on a MicroSD card and simply switch it to difference devices.

I'm happy with the Galaxy Nexus at the moment, apart from the storage; even the GPU seems to hold its own in games that I personally play such as Shadow Gun. Think I'm going to hold out for the Cortex A15 based processors before changing handset. After the Nexus S ICS fiasco, I can't even be confident that keeping hold of my Galaxy Nexus will guarantee a fast update to the next version of Android.

Yeah DAP wouldn't do me any 12 month contracts anywhere near as good as that TCO on Orange so I went with the deal I mentioned earlier:

Panther 41 at £33.50pm for 24 months
900 minutes
Unlimited texts (3000 fair usage)
1GB data
Free HTC media link
Free phone
£50 credit

TCO: £754

They reckon that it's being released towards the end of next week though CPW tried to guarantee me that I'd have it tomorrow on a worse contract (though with the other lies they were spouting I don't believe it).

Are you with Orange atm?

Nice deal SiD, we're you currently with Orange when upgrading? I can upgrade tomorrow with 3 months left on the contract. If I could get that deal, I'd be a happy man :p.

If not, I'm going to end up just taking out a new contract rather than wait for Orange to get the One X.

Yup with Orange at the moment. I phoned Orange directly on 150 over the last few days, half the staff have no idea the other half reckon next week but there's nothing on their systems. That deal was with DAP/P4U.

Watch out on taking a new contract. Apparently if you go for a new contract on the same provider you're on, you can't port your number, or so says the reps at CPW. When I suggested that you port the number to a PAYG and then to your new contract they seemed stumped mind.

Cool, I'm on £25 a month, so £75 roughly to buy out, probably less due to the saving on VAT on each month, but I'm gonna call and see what they can do :).

I think Orange allow early upgrades up to three months in advance, though the new contract extends from when your contract is supposed to expire.

Yeah, I can upgrade through Orange from now, but they dont have the One X available :(.

But I think phones4u let you upgrade with them If you have less than 90 days left, I'm just unsure what deal they can give me due to the remaining months :)

Gonna have to call around tomorrow!

Interesting taken from it
The screen on the One X is stunning. When I first saw the device it blew me away and when I switch back to my Galaxy Nexus from it now it makes the Nexus look like the worst screen in the world. The screen is almost Lumia 800 like in how the image feels like it’s painted on the surface of the phone with fantastic brightness and wonderful clarity

I was about to quote that Jabbs!

The camera sounds great too, faster than the Nexus at taking pictures and the picture quality seems good... initial battery impressions are good and I absolute love the design of the phone. It's just about the best looking phone out there for me (in white).

I don't often take videos and I imagine they will look decent enough on the phone itself, so that's not a huge problem for me and Paul said they seem okay too.

I'm looking forward to other reviews!
