***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

Am still not ruling out getting one mind :p all that is putting me off getting one on contract is if p4u lock them too a specific network.

Vodafone handsets are normally unlocked and the branding is really minimal, its just a bootscreen with the Vodafone logo and 2 apps that don't seem to do much.

If it is locked, Vodafone can unlock it free. I don't know the situation with the other carriers.

I've been out in the sun quite a bit today and using the phone.

It's on auto brightness and it really ramps it up when you're outside. I was shocked that I could actually see the screen quite easily. I wasn't expecting to be able to use it at all from what people had been saying... :o

In comparison the Galaxy S II isn't much different, I was expecting a really big difference.

Could be interesting might take a ganda at one then would this be the same for one ordered from like phones 4 u or dial a phone.

Phones4U will 'advise' you that it may be locked and branded but I would imagine they will get the stock directly from HTC in which case they will be unlocked and unbranded (like with the Galaxy S II), or they will get the stock from Vodafone in which case they will be branded and unlocked.

With that in mind, I'd say the chances of you getting a branded and locked one are pretty slim.

They're a bit poor around here but you get an average signal in most places.

The checkers aren't very accurate at all though, I'd go and get a free SIM card and try it for yourself.

Like with Three for me, their site checker puts my house in a total blackspot, yet I got a free SIM and had 3 bars... :p

They said that about the Galaxy S II as well. They're just covering themselves.

I'd be very surprised if it was locked if you get it from them on Vodafone but unfortunately you can't rule it out.

It would mean that P4U are locking the phones themselves, which I can't see happening really...

Well yes, you would think it would be locked (I thought mine would be) but I've since been informed that Vodafone normally don't lock their handsets, they just brand them.

This is exactly the opposite of the point I was trying to get across.

I'll say it differently, only a handful of people seem so determined that they "need" Sense, or Touchblur or Motoblur for the Moto fans or whatever else from any other maker. Obviously Sense is way bigger but out of all the HTC owners I know or have met and talked about phones with, nobody has said they absolutely require Sense on their phone. They like the features it gives but it's not something they have to have to enjoy their phone.

And FYI, you don't have to root and install a custom ROM to customise your phone, maybe you were not aware of this.

But those people you talk to must be techie people as there's several guys in our office with HTC handsets who have no idea what Sense is. To them, that's just the look and feel of the phone and to understand the difference, they would need to have a Nexus handset along side their device to see.

Take a cheap device for example, people who own these aare generally not techies and therefore do not know that the OS on their device is BADA or Symbian. Just that its a Nokia, Samsung or SE. My sister has an Arc but has no idea what timescape really is.

For me, having HTC Sense is a must have. I have a rooted phone and have tried stock vanilla ASOP builds and CM builds and I always restore my Sense nandroid backup within a short period of time. I came from an iPhone and without Sense, Android just lacks the polish and features that I need.

However, take Honeycomb and tablets and my opinion completely changes. For me, Honeycomb is slick and looks brilliant and Sense on the HTC Flyer on a non Honeycomb base really is a let down and just doesn't feel or fit.

I talk to a mixture of people throughout the day via work and my hobby but absolutely none of my friends or direct family are techies of any sort yet they're fully aware of what I talk about above!

Has anyone tried running with the sensation in their pocket? I use runkeeper on my current phone that is 130g. I'm not sure whether there would be a noticeable difference in weight if I move to the sensation and this is why I'm leaning towards the GSII, however, the Sense UI seems to be better and I'll enjoy using it more.

TL;DR: Any experiences running with the Sensation; is it noticeably heavy?

I have run with it in my trouser pocket (not properly running, just to my car when it was raining :p :D) and it seemed pretty ok.

I can't see it making a great deal of difference. It's heavy-ish for a phone but it's still a very light object at 148g.

I doubt you would notice 18g to be quite honest. The Galaxy S II definitely feels lighter but unless I'm specifically trying to notice the weights I can't really tell the difference.

If I walked up to 95% of the people I know and deal with and said something like -

"Hi, nice phone you have there, is it rooted?"

or

"Hi, what custom launcher do you use?"

They would look at me like I'd just asked them a question in Chinese.

I'll bet if you ask the majority of staff in mobile phone shops, they won't have a clue what it is either.

Is it not actually 32g difference between the sensation and GS 2? Which is a big difference for a mobile IMO.

I notice a big difference between my brothers desire and GS 2 and I am not even trying to notice the the difference between them, which is only 19g.

Obviously there are certain people here who prefer to have a heavier mobile as it makes it feel more like a premium device to them.
