*** The Official iOS and iPadOS 18 Thread ***

Starting to lose faith in wtf is apple doing on the software end of things lately. The whole reason I moved from Google long ago was that Apple were consistent with their own app experiences and UI's whereas Google kept changing stuff for the sake of it, and still do.

I sadly lobbed 18.2 onto my m2 iPad Air as mentioned and its just a mess. Mail app as stated just doesn't fetch mail anymore, well it does but it takes about 10mins to refresh my inbox - apparently G.Exchange is no longer supported or something. On my iPhone 14 Pro (that doesn't have AI bloat) Mail just does the same thing and just sits there endlessly refreshing.

So I turn to my daily driver - MacOS sitting on 15.1.1, which I am afraid to update should I receive some botched version of Mail too, not to mention AI bloat I just don't want at all. My laptop has Linux Mint and Thunderbird fetches from my gmail inbox just fine.

Don't get me started on the disaster that is the Photos video player. Whoever came up with that UI 'refresh' should be shot....repeatedly.

I just needed to rant :)

The Apple Mail and Gmail delay has been about for as long as I can remember - IIRC this is on Google. I use Gmail app, and I have no complaints.

AI bloat I completely agree, but its seemingly here to stay for the foreseeable across all providers - you can turn AI off in settings.

Photos you can reorder and put it back to the way it used to be.

I noticed recently the delay on gmail has gotten very long. Maybe last 3 weeks or so, could be a little longer. I have other email addresses though and want to move away from google anyway...

I’ve switched to outlook. It’s running really well. I’ll go back to Apple mail once they fix it.

I will say my apple mail fetch/push problems were resolved when I removed my accounts from mail app entirely, and then readded them back on. It's been working really well for me and receiving emails instantly.

I was very close to going to Gmail or something else when it was messing about.

Hmm I'll try this now on my phone. Cheers.

Edit: 30mins later...yeah this isn't doing a thing. Just sits there on 'Connecting...' when I try and refresh an empty inbox after re-adding the account. Bloody apple.

I’ve been using iPad OS 17 on my iPad still, and my goodness is iOS 18 poor by comparison.

I don’t usually switch for about 4 months after release, but I had an issue with my iPhone and when it was replaced, I was forced to update before I could set it up.

I’m still finding iOS 18 incredibly buggy, and while 17 is obviously fully mature now, it has been pretty slick since 17.1

Updating to 18.3 seems to automatically turn on Apple Intelligence annoyingly. So it now has downloaded 5gb of extra stuff on an already fairly full iPad Air, turning it off doesn’t seem to delete it either. Unless there’s something I’m missing?

Glad you mentioned this so I can turn it off after updating. Don’t think I’m missing out on anything AI wise so I’ll just leave it all off.

18.3 stops iTunes for Windows seeing your iphone. You will need to download "Apple Devices" from the Windows app store. After that iTunes will still not see your phone and Apple Devices seems to get in the way. Syncing your phone to Itunes no longer seems to work. Apple devices thinks I don't have apple music installed which is also now necessary.

Apple Music doesn't allow you to do much at all.

This is really bad.

And now, restarting iTunes warns me that all the music is no longer there, only in Apple Music. Apple Music manages my library now. Wonderful. I wanted an update to IOS because because and now all my music management has been changed to something much worse. Well done Apple
