I’m not in the market right now (and don’t plan to be) but even with the minor savings I personally don’t see the point of getting a 14 series phone at this stage. I know that if we all waited for the next big thing then we’d never buy anything, however with the 15 series likely to have the USB C port I can honestly see anything pre-15 falling the same way as the Intel Macs i.e very much ‘last gen’ and when it comes to selling on there’ll be a significant hit in price.

Yea the FOMO will be real when I'm sat with a 14 Pro and Timmy whips out the 15 Pro during the keynote :D

Regarding the latter who has Wi-Fi 6e in their house at the moment?

I priced it a couple of months ago would cost a fortune to upgrade everything from 6, including getting 2.5gbs wired.

I just upgraded my plan to the Vodafone Pro II 900 package, which includes the new Ultra Hub 6E router.

I moved from the google wifi set up (1 nest router, 1 nest wifi, 1 google wifi) to a single Asus ET12 AXE11000 wifi 6e router.

Its been a massive upgrade in terms of speed 800mb via wifi on my macbook pro 14 vs 350 previously.

Those sorts of speeds are achievable with normal wifi 6.

The issue with WiFi 6e is that it really needs an access point in every room you want the 6ghz speeds. The 6ghz signal is significantly degraded by walls and even furniture. 5ghz can penetrate the walls much more easily and 2.4ghz benefits further still.

It’s similar to mm wave 5g that can be literally blocked by a sheet of paper or your own hand holding the device.

Two things that will make me warrant upgrading to the 15 pro:

1) Faster charging speeds with usb-c compared to lightning
2) Better battery performance (13 series > 14 series)

Only on mesh Wifi 6 kit myself but can still get ~850Mbit throughput from it so it's at least good enough. The walls in my house seem to almost act like a faraday cage even though they aren't particularly thick so I don't think 6E will offer much benefit here. Sure I'll find out one day.

I can only seem to get around 650-670Mbit throughput on a speed test on my phone though, so improved Wifi 6 would still be welcome but I guess the available space in the phone for antennas etc is going to be the limiting factor here. Although with that said, I've never felt like only having 650Mbit Internet speeds on my phone has exactly held me back from anything in any way.

Tempted to get a 14 Pro now, can be had for 899 14 day returns. 15 pro will likely be bumped in price and not a noticeable difference day to day Vs the 14 Pro. Decisions.

My 14 Pro is down to 93%. I don’t think that using it for navigation with Waze helps, especially when it’s sat on the dashboard getting warm from use as well as the Sun.

So for someone looking to upgrade to a 14 or 15 next month is the dynamic island still a gimmick or have they actually given it any use? The extra camera of the pro appeals to me but not sure that alone is worth the price difference.

A gimmick to attempt to hide what it is and it still gets in the way of text and info from apps that haven’t yet taken into account a void in the screen
