Are you getting an iPhone 15?

I guess so as before most people upgraded every year to get actually good upgraded features, not the trickle we are used to now (not just Apple)
Well looking at how these seem to be selling, I didn't want them to be out of stock when I got back home so I have placed a pre-order now.

Anker do some nice smooth ones that do 100w or so but only usb 2.0 speeds afaik.
Ugreen do some 100/140w and usb3.0 speeds but the connectors are chunky

thanks for the help! yeah not a fan of the chunky connectors, so will probably pick up one of the thinner ones with durable cable

I've managed to catch up with the usual tech media coverage of the apple event and A LOT is being made of the iPhone 15 'only' supporting USB 2.0. I'm a self confessed nerd, the way I use devices goes way beyond what mainstream users would do but I literally can't remember the last time I plugged my phone into a computer.

I couldn't think of a reason why I'd ever bother or why any mainstream user would bother. I'm not even sure a mainstream user would realise that you can plug them into a computer these days.

Here is the killer question, does anybody actually care that the standard iPhone is USB 2.0?

What are people going to be transferring off/on their phone via USB to need crazy speeds?

I can’t think of any reason I use the lightning cable other than charging. Everything else is wireless.

Video recordings from holidays/special events that are shot in 4K Dolby Vision or ProRAW that are quite large in size.

Don't see how having faster transfer speeds is irrelevant, just because we didn't have it up until the 15 Pro doesn't mean there was no need for it ever. It's been long overdue.

It's for content creators only. I've actually never transferred anything via cable to my pc. But content creators who are recording dozens of gigabyte videos, the cable will be nice

That's the case with a lot of iPhone features these days, so many features that only a professional photographer or professional content maker or designer would ever use and less than 1% of iPhone users will use it.

There can’t be a reason other than to push people to upgrade their phone choice, usb2.0 is ooold and it only makes financial sense to Apple, but its apple so we expect this sort of thing no?

Noticed most places have stock of the 15/plus and pro but the max is nowhere to be seen, not even showing as available on the Very website and now Apple are showing as early November for delivery depending on what configuration you’d like.

Users have noticed that the a17 pro shared a very similar internal code name to the a16

All prior new chips have had a new codename, the code for the A16 is "H15" and the A17 Pro's codename is "H15C" instead of "H16"

That fuels the speculation that the A17 Pro is actually just a 3nm A16 with an extra GPU core attached. That would certainly explain the lacklustre benchmarks we've seen so far

5G is meant to be better on this including range as well as speed. The range aspect will be great for me as my 14 pro struggles a lot.

Good point. I didn’t notice that. I don’t know how much I care about the action button. Like I never use my mute switch.. I can’t even think of what I’d say it to right now :D
I'm starting to think that having it recessed might actually be better. I will miss the old, tactile mute switch. Having the new style one recessed is possibly the next best thing.

Hopefully Apple add further functionality to that action button in order to allow double and maybe triple presses.
