Are you getting an iPhone 15?

Oh wait, does the 15 Pro have a physical SIM tray in the UK?

Does nobody love the regular 15? Not seeing as many reviews on YouTube for them.
Because that’s not where the money is for these “reviewers”.
It’s the same with nearly every device now. I bet you could count on one hand the number of full time reviewers who review the base model of anything. It’s always the ‘Pro/Max/Ultra’ packed to the eyeballs with ram and storage.

Bring on the new SE!! If it comes with the insides of the 15 in the body of a 13 then the only real advantage will be cameras and pointless island for those buying the current base model. Those buying the base model probably would be happy to make do with both lacking if there was a £200 saving.

For those still going on about the colour of the natural titanium, it isn’t the rail that’s the issue. That’s lush and matches the watch perfectly as well as being a near perfect match for the MacBooks in silver (happy and unexpected feature). The issue is the back and it’s the same on all of the phones. They’re all much less like the over saturated and contrasty colour on apples site and are far more muted. That makes this nude phones rear more like the white in pictures which is disappointing as I don’t like the white.

Can you imagine getting a base model blue or yellow 15 and finding those muted and uninspiring renditions of what could have been? These aren’t cheap devices and should be as advertised.

Removing the SIM tray would remove the ability to have a dual SIM setup, forcing an eSIM only is not a smart move. Also Apple don't force others to follow at all, hence why you now see USB-C on their phones. I guarantee they'll be the last ones clinging on switching back user replaceable batteries when that come back into force as well.

Yes Three do offer eSIM.

You can have up to 8 eSims run at the same time IIRC.

In the US the Phones don’t come with a sim tray, so the carriers in the US either have to support eSIM or they can’t sell iphones. So I’d say they are forcing them. It was purely about in relation to that, nothing to do with USB ports or replaceable batteries or anything like that.

My bad regarding them not offering eSim, they didn’t a couple
Yes, I should have been more clear - not all networks support eSIM so if you are using a non-UK SIM etc. then having the tray is very handy.

To be fair that’s a good shout but that has all but been replaced by the likes of holafly, airalo etc

But like you say not all networks support it, if apple made them without the sim tray it would probably kick start them all into supporting it tomorrow - which is my original point.

Off the back of this thread I’m only after discovering that Sky finally do eSim. The last time I checked (which admittedly could be at least a year ago) they didn’t do it.
Might change over for the heck of it!

My first camera test (15 PM). Probably need photography lessons.

Fun when your two trade in kits arrive and there's no indication which is for your watch and which is for your phone so had to ring Apple to find out, since they go to separate companies and there's supposed to be an order number on the labels but there's only a customer reference which isn't in any of the emails Apple sends you.

Impressive but still a lot of marketing hype on the camera and still looks light years away from the images I get from my X-T30 II. I think I’m going to cancel my preorder and keep the 12 Pro Max.

I think if you’re fine with carrying a camera then the delicious photos are there to be had. Most aren’t interested in lugging a camera around. I’m kinda in that boat too, I just want to capture a moment the best I can on a phone. Extra dynamic range, micro contrast, detail in the eyes etc is nice but not that important to capture the essence of a photo.

Also it’s nice having a baked in video via Live Photos, that is worth a lot when looking back at memories.

If I want to do some capital-P Photography, I’m taking my D810, various lenses, tripod, and filters. And I’m fully expecting to spend x number of hours in Lightroom processing the shots afterwards.

If I’m just taking general snaps, even of fairly big life events, I’m going to default to my phone 99% of the time.

I took my camera gear with me on our family holiday to France and Germany this summer, and not once felt inspired enough to bother getting the big camera out.

And that was with my XS. Assuming the camera reviews are accurate, I’m going to find even less opportunities to warrant the Nikon with a 15PM in my pocket.

It's amazing what Apple, Samsung etc can squeeze out of the tiny lenses and compact sensors on a phone, but ultimately physics is physics. So a dedicated camera will always win once you go 'pixel peeping'. But for general use, the quality of photos and videos you can get out of a phone now are stunning, plus all the convenience of portability. As the old adage goes, the best camera is the one you have with you.

It's the extra faff with a proper camera, the photos don't just magically appear in your photo library and then on your Mac and iPad. You have to transfer them off using some app/bluetooth/wifi/cable/SD card, work on them, import them etc.

I used to have a full frame 1D Mk3, L lenses etc, but sold it all as phone cameras started getting perfectly viable for day to day photos. Obviously they won't pass for a professional or a keen 'tog but for something you have with you anyway I think the photos they take are utterly amazing. Plus as @LiE mentioned the Live Photos is a treasure in itself.

Totally agree when talking about photos of friends/family etc but say I’m out walking and see a stunning rainbow or sunset, I just don’t even bother if I only have my iPhone. The sun always comes out as a giant blob, the photos look processed to death. ProRaw was a great addition and helps beat the horrific processing done in camera when you’re trying to do proper photography but the images are still flat and look poor compared to Fujifilm RAWs. If we’re not talking about doing proper photography, the 12 Pro Max already has an outstanding camera for a mobile phone for capturing life moments so it seems all I’m getting with the 15 Pro Max is “improvements” to the processing I already don’t like, I doubt the ProRaws will be that much better compared to the 12.
