How are the speeds with Lyca? Anyone in central london ? Currently with EE but am looking to switch due to costs and poor service (no access to bills via my online account!)

Back OT. Have a 15 pro max to replace my 12 pro max scheduled arrival of 9-16th of November. Seems they are being dispatched faster however.

Lyca use EE so not sure you'd have any better luck with them.

Few days after going from the 12 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max.

The Good
- There is a massive improvement in mobile connectivity. Works flawlessly around London now, previously I got no mobile data at all at London Bridge station. Last night I was streaming 5G content.

The Bad
- As I predicted the camera is awful. Very little improvement on 12 Pro Max. Photos still have a classic ‘smartphone’ rendering, no depth, poor colours. Portrait mode slightly better than before but photos still look completely artificial. Expected a much bigger improvement given all the usual hype on the keynote. I have four Fujifilm cameras, two in use, two gathering dust. The ones gathering dust with a basic kit lens would still categorically blow my 15 Pro Max out the water in every single way for capturing important life moments.
- I don’t like the design. I think the 12 Pro Max is a much sexier phone to hold without a case on.

Otherwise it’s a nice enough upgrade. Slicker, faster, more responsive etc but nothing I wouldn’t have missed I don’t think.

I’m on EE and have no issues with speed in central London. You can view/download all your bills (full history) and see your current usage via the EE app and website.

I’m not sure if Lyca would be any better. Some MVNOs have lower priority on the network and this can be evident at busy times. It certainly was when I was with giffgaff who use O2.

Shock as phone camera renders like a phone camera and isn't comparable to a mirrorless camera :p

I know and I realise that is somewhat of a scathing and unfair review but Apple are the ones aggressively marketing this to the mass market as a reason to not buy a dedicated camera. The sample images they show (assuming they are not lying and they were actually taken on the smartphone) are in no way representative of what the average consumer could achieve. I am not confident in ProRaw and Lightroom/Photoshop I could create anything like their sample low-light images. I could very easily recreate their sample images with any of my Fujifilm cameras though.

It is capable of taking good photos in RAW and then doing some PP.

My biggest issue with iPhone photos are the colours, they just look bad to me.

Also this post made me laugh. The size of that lens and camera to prove a point! - https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ead-worldwide-2023-2024.2403564/post-32582411

I would consider myself a pretty full on amateur photographer (with Fuji X cameras).
I've been on many trips around the world where I've not bothered to take my camera and just relied on my 13 Pro. Shooting and RAW and editing in LR, I've been very impressed with how it copes. And you shouldn't get any of that rendering if you shoot RAW and tune the photo to how you want.

Mobile cameras are very capable, and for the 'masses' are a viable alternative to a cheap camera. But yes, any dedicated photographer is not going to be shooting landscapes etc with a phone.

That made me laugh too… but again the point stands that whilst we find it funny, many consumers will still think the iPhone can take comparable photos!

Just had a text from DHL with a 1hr delivery window for my 15 Pro Max this afternoon. My case and screen protector won’t arrive from Amazon until tomorrow though :(

I’m looking forward to having the ‘Dynamic Island’ and always on display, and it will be nice to have USB-C at last.

Is Music Magpie a good place to sell my 13 Pro Max? I should have done the Apple trade in really. In the past I’ve used eBay. However, I know it can be troublesome sometimes. Unfortunately I don’t yet qualify for the MM.

Go whichever offers the most, avoid Ebay. Maybe CEX can offer something if you have one by you.

EBay is a nightmare. I’d avoid that too.

Personally, I’d go to MM. I tried the self drop off and had a bit of an issue with it but others have had flawless time with it so I’d give that a go. If it fails just send it to them in the post.

Apple’s sample and marketing photos aren’t fake. However, they often use professional lighting and that makes a huge difference.

Newbie to iPhone type question. Given that i could buy a 14 Pro Max for the same price as a 15 Plus.. what's the best option?

-weight difference is noticable (on paper)
-i have iPads with lightning so not concerned about USB C
-pretty much all specs are the same?.. maybe battery life?
-always on screen will get turned off. never used a 120Hz screen, never had an issue with current device screen refresh

Is there any sense in taking the heavier device with feaures i wouldn't use? :D Or is there some other benefit i've not figured out?

Well photography is all about lighting! :p It's in the name.

Professional editing and lighting will go a long way with an average camera.

I'd probably go with 15 Plus if you don't care for the 120 Hz display, telephoto camera and ProRAW camera features.

It's lighter, has a more ergonomic design (rounded corners). The 14 PM is a very heavy device and as someone who switched from a XS to XS Max to get a bigger screen, I'm now tempted to go back due to how heavy and unwieldy the 14 PM is.

Battery life would be better on 14 PM as in real world usage, the screen refresh will adapt to usage. Both will be very good though.

So weight, and some 'advanced' camera features are the things to consider, and maybe the screeen refresh. Have to make a decision, as you say, are they important to me or not. thanks!

Have you rang them? Always found their CS helpful.
Have spoken to them, was working fine through their app up until 2 months ago they said it is a technical issue and have been sending me my bill via the post while it is being resolved!
Lyca use EE so not sure you'd have any better luck with them.
I like EEs signal as is working fine for me, just looking to save on price!

Thanks, that is a good point on lower-priority. Think Lyca will offer 90% of what i need. Will see if i can make EE more competitive on pricing when renew next month

One of the things i am interested in, which is one of the reasons i went for the Pro Max is the Lidar for 3D Scanning. The normal 15 doesnt have that feature and is very useful for more accurate 3D Scans.
