Which iPhone 16 will you be getting?

Not sure where to dump this but this is laughable.

2025, and they’re still doing 60hz at that price.

£599 for 128GB gets you...
  • No sensor-shift image stabiliser
  • No new generation photographic styles
  • No cinematic mode
  • No action mode
  • 4-core instead of 5-core GPU
  • No Ultra Wideband chip
  • No WiFi 7
  • No MagSafe
  • USB-C connector with support for USB 2 (up to 480Mb/s)
  • 60hz screen

It'll be interesting to see some performance figures of Apple's C1 modem in the 16e and if it stacks up to the Qualcomm's currently used; although £599 seems a tad much to be a beta tester

Perfect for the target market of grandma and granddad :D

Tim isn’t silly. This phone id aimed squarely at those who buy the cheapest iPhone and give no thought to spec.

I am in the market for possibly shifting my mother to iOS but I'm certainly not buying that thing. I'll have to go....cheaper :o

I usually buy the SE and might buy this. I do give thought to the spec and features. Most of them on a modern smartphone are useless / used once as a novelty and not worth paying the extra for.

I had been considering upgrading to this, but sadly the lack of Magsafe means that I'll not bother, as it won't work with a few accessories I already have. Shame - wonder why they omitted it?

Looks like it has got Qi, but agreed it’s a strange omission.

It will be fine for most people. Even I don't use the USB port to transfer data on my phone. Wifi 6 or 7 make no difference, I am not transferring large files. Camera...its fine. I use my other bigger camera if I need it. All those modes, I think I used it twice. Magsafe, don't have any Magsafe accessories.

£599 for an iPhone, A18 chip. It will be snappy, OLED....its fine for a lot of people.

Not sure what the fuss is about. It’s the new SE, so will lack features of the main models. It’s positioned for entry.

MagSafe is the only thing there that I care about.

I feel at the £599 price point, you might as well spend the extra £100 and get a fully fledged iPhone16. If you can afford £599 in the first place, the extra cost shouldn't be much of a factor. I guess it fits into Apple's now common pricing strategy of always trying to upsell you to the next product level.

This is exactly it for me — it feels like it's now just a lower rung on their pricing ladder — whereas the old SE was a clear jump between models.

My parents, my in-laws, and my wife are/were on the last SE model. My mum recently upgraded to the base 16, and my wife's phone is starting to show its age, so I said to wait for the new SE that's just around the corner. But having seen the release, I think it makes more sense for her to get the base 16 than the 16e.

So I guess the pricing ladder is working on me…

I don't see this as an SE but rather what they did with the XR when the X came out.

It was very similar, 1 camera, lower hz screen, same body size..

Kind of the point though isnt it?

A computer forum is unlikely to contain the target market for this phone. Its a basic iphone for people who want a basic iphone and wont forensically analyse the specs. it will do the job for them. One you are in the ecosystem you may buy another product or you may upgrade to one of the other phones later.

Logically they want you to spend the extra £100.

It's not an extra 100 it's 200 more. 90% of the people I know and work with just want a good solid phone that will last them for year with updates, has a basic camera and can send **** in whats app group chats. I have a 16 pro but tbh don't use anything I wasn't using on my old 11. The cameras are still **** for taking decent photographs and don't feel the 16 is noticeably better than the 11.

Considering the 16E , i use my phone mainly for whatsapp a bit of browsing and social media. Want to stay with iOs though. Or stay with my iphone 11 for another year or two and get a new battery.

Decision decisions..

Said the same to my wife the other day. Objectively comparing my 7 year old Audi A4 to what Audi offer today, only minor differences. Pretty sure they still use the E888 engine in their 2.0 TFSI cars. It’s all about EVs now, which is where I’ll eventually go.
Electric powered phones?? No thank you :p
I’m happy with my 15 Pro, I like that it’s smaller and lighter than the 16 Pro and doesn’t have the silly camera button. Should hopefully be able to keep this phone for the long run.

There's an argument that you could be better served by picking up a regular 15 (on sale). Same price (or less) as the 16e.
They each give up a few features to each other so I guess it depends on which features are important to you.
