Having used over face recognition stuff in the past I didn't see it working that great.

Having used face recognition technology on other hardware in the past, I can fully understand your reasoning.

However, Apple’s philosophy is the correct implementation of technologies rather than just racing to push the latest thing out of the door before it’s ready. They would not release a core technology on the iPhone unless it was ready for prime time, especially if it were to fully replace a proven technology like the ‘Touch ID’ fingerprint sensor. Given that the success of the whole company is essentially based on the iPhone it was a pretty safe bet last year that it would work as described - and indeed it is.

I’ve not missed the fingerprint sensor or home button at all.

Yeah, touchID is at the core of the OS and is massive for apple. Apple Pay is entirely reliant on touchID/faceID to make it a useful contactless system. If it didn't work well they would have just stuck with touchID.

I love faceID but I would be happy with touchID built into the display as well. When you are laying down and looking at the screen at a shallow angle it doesn't work. Thats only like 0.5% of the time though and the rest of the time I love it. Massive improvement on touchID. I like that it just gets out of your way and you don't feel like you have done anything to authenticate yourself. You just get on with what you unlocked the phone for.

Only thing I need to do is check on all the gestures you can use on the X. I didn't realise that you can swipe through all your apps by swiping left and right on the bar at the bottom when in an app.

I've been itching for a new phone for a while and my sim only contract is coming up soon. Not totally gone off the idea of coming back to apple.

The XR doesn't look too bad and using works discount I can get the phone for £690.

anyone else gone for an XR?

Any (XR) reviews up yet that ain’t by haters or isheep? Just watched the Rene Ritchie one and it’s like a dam advert for apple. Terrible.
Instead of listening to reviewers who are either biased or just hate apple...wait till they are in stores on display and go play with one extensively.

I ignored all the reviews and just waited a couple of weeks then went in, played with an xs for a good half hr then went and bought one on the upgrade program.

Tbh majority of things I buy I ignore reviews because usually they are in the pockets of said company or just want to hate on it because they think it’s cool. I mean geez some of the cons ive heard for things I’ve bought in the past have been hilariously biased. It’s simple for me, I go in and play with said item and see if it does everything I want it to. If it does then great, if it doesn’t then I walk away.

Gsmarena is a pretty normal review even though they’re very pro android.

Thanks guys, will take a look.

720p for watching videos and no HDR is kinda a hard pill to swallow for me coming from an 8plus, wanting a screen upgrade really. Seems worse than an iPhone 8 off angle as well.

Hard sell when I can pick up a note 9 for the same price

It's pretty poor. Apple unnecessarily hamstringing their cheaper phone to differentiate their product lines is pretty poor at these prices.

After that PC build guide they put out a few weeks ago I am never watching another video from The Verge, it was such a travesty they actually took it down...

The reason they gave was 'minor factual errors' - literal comedy in its own right.

I won't link to the re-upload as the channel name has a swear word in it but you can find it if you like and a whole plethora of react video's tearing it a new one.
