Price is no issue for a great experience IMO. Well, for me anyway :p

The price has been blown out of proportion. As many have said, this is a tech site. We should be the last ones concerned with price, it's Joe Public who should be concerned.

My watercooling loop cost £800 and that just pumps water around. For an extra £199 you can have a very nice supercomputer/phone in your pocket.

I bet lots of us are typing on nice fancy mechanical keyboards that set us back ~£150. Go tell someone who isn't a tech/PC enthusiast that. They'll probably find that crazier as you can buy a working keyboard for about £5 these days.

£1000 is expensive for a phone, no denying that. But it's far from the worst purchases that have been made on this website.

One of the biggest appeals of this device for me is the size vs screen size.

I think that some users are going to be disappointed with the screen when they start using the iPhone X. The sensor bump and rounded corners significantly reduce the usable area for displaying content (what Apple calls the “safe area”). There’s going to be a lot of dead space in many apps on the iPhone X.

If you want the biggest useable screen, the iPhone 8+ will still be king.

So what your saying is why buy an X at 1000 when you can get exactly the same experience for less? :)

Exactly that! Just...

No FaceID
No Force touch
No OLED
No HDR
No Wireless Charging
No quick charging
No full screen display
No dual cameras
No water resistance

But other than that, and probably lots of other things I've missed off the top of my head. Yes, exactly the same

Because some people want top of the line ? I've had the SE. And while it was a great phone, the X has better features all round. Not to mention it'll be he fastest phone on the planet, as usual.

Face ID will divide people for sure. Using face unlock can feel rather awkward, especially in public with a queue of people behind you.

I don't think it will. I have an S8+ which uses iris scanning,

It’s fast and effective when indoors, and mostly good outdoors, although if the sun is behind you, it will struggle. Face ID will also struggle in direct sunlight as it uses a similar infrared flood lamp to light up your face.

Face ID/iris unlock work using the same principle and have dedicated hardware to auth and unlock without you having to wait in a queue holding people up. It’s instant, as quick as fingerprint unlock. You don’t even need to hold the phone close to your face, just glance at the screen.

Principal??!

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. I really like OLED, even if the colours aren't traditionally as accurate. I remember when I got the Galaxy S2, I thought "imagine how good this would be on a TV", and so I bought an OLED TV recently and it's just fantastic.

Apple as a general rule make things like this significantly better. Touch ID is a good example, other fingerprint readers were good but Touch ID on the 5s was near on flawless for me, and it's only got faster as time as gone on.

I think it'll struggle really, Touch ID is more of an exact science in terms of what it does, but I'm prepared to be surprised. If it works at a good angle - for example you don't need your face over it when it's flat on a desk - I could easily get on with it, but that remains to be seen.

If as you say, it struggles in the sun, that is a huge problem and will mean unlocking the phone has taken a big step backwards from Touch ID.

Why buy a BMW 550i when you can get a 520d for half the price that is much the same experience?
Why buy a Core i7 when you can get a Core i3 for half the price that is much the same experience?
Why buy a Fire TV when you can buy a Fire TV Stick for half the price that is much the same experience?
Why buy a 1 carat diamond solitaire engagement ring when you can buy a Swarovski ring for 1/10 of the price for much the same experience?

In the keynote, they had one image showing the woman's face at a wide angle, like when you look at your phone and it's sitting on a desk, it's not directly in front of your face, so I'd assume by this, it actually works at wide angles rather than directly in front.

Although the demo iPhone on stage that failed to face unlock and he had to switch to a backup didn't inspire total confidence :p

Those are luxury items. You cant buy a similar build watch for £100. Can you buy a similar specced iphone x? yea you can. note 8 or even the one plus 5 just to name a few.

People dont realise the fact that some worship <insert company/brand> as god lol

The android phones already had that a year or so ago...
You can only buy a similar specced phone if you are happy to use android. Many iPhone users buy iPhones specifically to get iOS and not android. Me included. If I didn’t care which OS I had, id probably own a cheap android phone as opposed to an iPhone 7 Plus. But as iOS is my most wanted/needed spec, I have an iPhone.

The SE's best feature is the thing it doesn't have - Bulk.

Yes, I remember that, near the pool. That's what made me think it can work at a decent angle.

The issue on stage wasn't down to Face ID, as far as I know, it was just the phone had been restarted/left for a while and not had the pin put in. It was quite hilarious though :D

iOS is a bit gash though? The apps make the phone as Windows phone found out.

I am happy to wait until the beta tester have tried it out first, you bet your bottom dollar the next model will track even better.

Most likely any improvements will occur in software so you'll get it if you're a beta tester or the last to the party.

Luxury is just anything above the essentials, the Weetabix you ate this morning are also a luxury item...

I think the context was pretty clear, do you really want to waste time arguing over the meaning of luxury?
