*** The official "I've put my tree up early" thread ***

Does this mean the ocuk forum Christmas babe thread can start up again?

No, too early.

Put the outdoor Christmas lights up on the front of the house today.

Don't worry, they aren't being turned on until we're well into December.

Just taking advantage of this long period of settled dry weather.

So ....

We've had Xmas early today with my parents as we're away over Xmas and put a tree up .

Put ours up today. It’s the earliest we’ve done it in a while, but the next few weekends are too busy with festive entertainment. Feels good - 10th Christmas tree we’ve put up in this house together.

Honestly dont think we bothered with a tree last year. I truly hate Xmas - so much fakery, so much consumerism, gluttony. Last year I didnt take consumer gifts from family and had the gift of time with them. I enjoyed that more than any other gift.

Also I hate it cos my Dad died at Xmas coming up for 6 years ago but I think I didnt like it before that

Bought a real Christmas tree this morning, went to put it up this afternoon and realised our old Christmas tree stand bucket thing was falling apart (plastic gone brittle with ages).

Popped back out and bought a plastic Christmas tree base only to find the bolts that tighten against the tree aren't long enough as the trunk seems quite narrow this year.

Typically by the time I'd realised it was ten to four so no chance of getting an alternative stand.

Day 1 and I'm already wanting Christmas to **** off :D

Anything you can wrap it in or brace with? A few bits of scrap timber should do it.

Went shopping for one today the artificial ones at B and q looked a bit naff tbh unless you spent loads so got a real 5 ft Nordman Fir one for 13 quid from home bargains

bought a decent base for it filled up with water and all set up now hope it lasts!

Thanks for this - so simple but my mind was completely blank yesterday.

Got up this morning and cut up some 18mm hardwood offcuts into ~ 2" x 2" squares, put these between the bolts and the tree trunk on all 4 sides, and all is good! :)
