**The Official J&W JW-X48D2-Extreme Thread**

I dont think there are many x38/x48 boards that will do 500 fsb without insane volts.
I have a P5E with custom water with the most volts I dare push I can get 490 with my Q9300.
CPU at 1.45v (bios) NB 1.7v
I have tried hard for 500 fsb but it aint happening, seems the P45s will do it, but not a lot of good with no dual 16x lanes, so rules it out for a lot of us xfire users.
For the record with my 6300 I could get 525 on air, but dont think my memory liked it any further, did think of trying it under my custom water, reckon the board would do more on a dualie.
Its debatable wether the X48s are that much better than the X38s.

a good x48 can do 500fsb without adding nb voltage...

Okay, finally photobucket is ok.

on 1st July 2008, I had a holiday and did a brief oc with my non-oc RAM (mushkin 2GB*2 = 4GB Kit, good for use, not good for oc, not capable of extreme oc) as promised earlier, I didn't forget it.

Direct boot with 400* max 9.5 multiplier, bios all AUTO (vcore and vdimm were raised up a little bit automatically to 1.35v bios and 2.1v bios).

32M Dual Pi passed of course, if not, I would throw this board to rubbish bin.

last trial before I get my D9 RAM back,
so don't expect the time to be fast,
I don't have fast sticks on hand now,
will try again soon!

4.7GHz Pi 1M passed

***1.5625 vcore, 1.4 vnb, 1.286 vtt, 2.2 vdimm*** all others AUTO.

look at my simple rig, don't expect any extreme cooling, no, I only used simple stuff, not even a fan on northbridge, room temp. was 30C.

what I am presenting to you guys is "practical OC", that means something everybody at least has a chance to do the same, not those oc you can never do. ;)

Thanks for your time watching my brief, STAGE 1 review,
STAGE 2, or possibly STAGE 3 and 4, will be coming.

but wouldnt putting over 1.4 through a penryn lead to electron migration or have they sorted that out.

and can you show some screenies of over 500FBS but with a few outs of orthoss/prime/OCCT? thta will prove the stability over a long period. or even while gaming on FSX, as thats one of the most CPU intensive games i know of.

Day 3: 02/07/2008 :)

Today I got my D9 RAM back, and also my E8600.
better give them a try. :D

4.78GHz, 1.5725vcore, 2.2vdimm, 1.4vnb, 1.286vtt, others AUTO.

4.80GHz, 1.5725vcore, 2.2vdimm, 1.4vnb, 1.286vtt, others AUTO.

4.82GHz CPU-Z validated.

Live picture, ambient was so hot as you can see in the picture....near to 34C :(

crazy 5GHz @ 1.62 vcore, but not stable anymore, could get into windows was my luck....

Yeah but not many, with quads, mine can do it with a duelie no probs, without much voltage if any, cant remember only had it in here a day.
Can you post some links to these x48s doing these speeds and I will go buy one.

Quad 500FSB without adding voltages? I think none. :)
my best is 485FSB without adding voltages.

I am quite busy you know....ran specially for you while I was sleeping.;)

Couple of questions now I'm all settled in.

My speedstep seems to have stopped working, was fine to begin with but now stays at 3.1g no matter how little is going on. It's on in the bios fine, any ideas what could cause this?

I swapped 4gb of xms2 corsair with a friend for 4gb(2x2) of corsair dominator ram, never really done much with pushing the ram before any pointers of a good place to start getting the most from it?

CPU is a Q9450 currently at 3.1

Thanks

There are about 4 settings that could be turning this off - manually setting the multiplier will always lock it out I think, and also turning off C1E can have an effect. Turning off speedstep (obviously). There are two places you can fix the multiplier (In the CPU settings and the JustWoot!) so check it's not been forced on by mistake.

Have you adjusted anything else at all?

On the RAM, set the timings as tight as possible, and you want the performance level as low as is stable. What kind of Dominator is it?

Thanks for the pointers I'll take a peek in a little while and see.

The only things i set where the strap speed (333), fsb speed (390), ram speed (can't remember what thats set to), apart from that just odds and sods like turning off a couple of ports. I was rather surprised you can't turn off the soundcard in the bios, seemed strange.

The RAM is DDR2 twin2x4096-8500c5df http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF.pdf
