***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

It's been around since before 4.2 so I think it means he hasn't updated his contacts with high res pics since it's been possible.

Does GLONASS actually add anything? I have it on my XS and the GPS seems about the same as my X10. Does anyone know the performance of copying files from PC to phone and vice versa? My XS is agonisingly slow.

GLONASS makes a clear difference when comparing my S2 to S3. But obviously depends on your location.

What speeds are you getting for your XS? Should be at least 5MB/s write.

It doesn't show the speed but it feels bad. One recent morning it took around 7/8 minutes to copy one file around 1.5gb

Difference? Speed of locking on? At first this phone was actually slower than the my X10 but eventually it got pretty fast, now it's somewhere in between.

That's roughly about 5MB/s which ok for internal memory - 10MB/s on S3 iirc.

Yes speed of locking is much increased - aswell as more satellites.

What is glonass ?

GLONASS allows us to use Russian sattelies aswell as GPS (US satellites) = faster lock and better accuracy, esp in some areas.

wiki said:
GLONASS (Russian: ГЛОНАСС; IPA: [ɡlɐˈnas] - Глобальная Навигационная Спутниковая Система), acronym for Globalnaya Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema or Global Navigation Satellite System, is a radio-based satellite navigation system operated for the Russian government by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces. It both complements and provides an alternative to the United States' Global Positioning System (GPS) and is the only alternative navigational system in operation with global coverage and of comparable precision.

Development of GLONASS began in the Soviet Union in 1976. Beginning on 12 October 1982, numerous rocket launches added satellites to the system until the "constellation" was completed in 1995. In the 2000s (decade), under Vladimir Putin's presidency, the restoration of the system was made a top government priority and funding was substantially increased. GLONASS is the most expensive program of the Russian Federal Space Agency, consuming a third of its budget in 2010.

By 2010, GLONASS had achieved 100% coverage of Russia's territory and in October 2011, the full orbital constellation of 24 satellites was restored, enabling full global coverage. The GLONASS satellites' designs have undergone several upgrades, with the latest version being GLONASS-K.

Just to add - JB on the Galaxy Nexus is soo smooth and fast, pretty much like on the S3. Impressive performance for such old hardware - JB makes all the difference, ICS was noticeabley worse.

Camera looks pretty poor there IMO especially the 1080P video recording :(

These "expert" sites don't know how to do proper battery tests and don't post all the relevant info! Firstly:

- wasn't charged to 100%
- he recharged it a few times
- what about screen on time and screen brightness???
- how often is stuff syncing i.e. weather, facebook, news feeds etc.???
- browsed the web for about 40 minutes yet it didn't register on the usage chart
- phone calls for about 40 minutes but not listed on the usage chart

Amongst other things.

Guessing those last 2 points could just be another bug with that version of 4.2...

Although it sounds decent enough overall.

Apart from the camera, battery life and possibly audio it looks very good!

Again though, taking everything with a huge pinch of salt until we get reviews using the latest software version (preferably by gsmarena and anandtech) as well as some user opinions.

Whats the problem with the audio?

From tech radar review:

Sound quality isn't bad at all. Playing music over the loudspeaker led to mixed results – we would have preferred a bit more bass and volume. It's not helped by the fact there is just one speaker and it's on the back so when the phone is face up, it's muffled a bit.

I don't use my phone for music much, but I do watch a lot of videos and play a few games and use the loud speaker quite a lot.

With the one S the sound quality is one of the best/clearest and has good volume as well as bass even when faced up along with the likes of the GS 3.

Although again I am taking that with a pinch of salt as gsmarena said the optimus G was very good and going by their test, it was very close to the one S/GS 3 results.
