*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

Do you guys reckon if I ring them, and come up with some rubbish about not understanding if the reserve in store counts for just the type cover, or the surface aswell, that I'd be able to get one today? Long shot I know, just getting impatient now lol.

Oh an cheers POB, never even thought to try that.

Try it mate and let me know how it goes! I'd give it a shot myself but out the door in 5 for my little bros bday party. Swimming party with 15 seven year olds... gonna be fun.

They also have the black touch/type 2 and purple type 2 available for collect in store. Quite tempted by the purple, the black is kinda boring and the cyan looks very bright (at least in pictures, never seen one in person).

I thought the black was a bit boring too, until I remembered the Surface 2 had a light finish. The two contrasting tones will probably look quite smart. I had a cyan touch cover, now I'm going with the black type cover 2.

With regards to the impressive battery life, it will be interesting to see what the numbers are like with the additional power cover. It sounds like it would be good for two days work.

I keep being tempted by one of these.

What I like:
Love the snap-in multitasking
Love a proper flash browser
Love the desktop idea (for multitasking)
Seems snappy
Nice design/materials
Nice keyboard case options

What I'm not keen on
Can't run .NET apps (would be easy to use all my .NET apps (mainly engineering tools)
No Chrome (yeah, I seem to just like Chrome as a browser)
Lack of apps in the store

Now, I mainly just surf the web, and maybe chat with mates using google hangouts, skype or similar.. However, I would love it if I could have run all my engineering apps which I've written in .NET.. but alas not..

So, aside from my personal pro/con's, what am I missing, and what useful stuff are people doing with theirs?

two Argos' have them in stock (if you go in store, they show up).. so quite tempted..

I've got Nexus 7's (slightly too small at times) and a Note III (awesome, but the Note 10.1 2014 is just too expensive to consider)..

I have also thought about a Surface Pro, but they are quite heavy for a tablet, and for the money, I'd rather get another laptop..

Barclaycard fraud department just rang. Seems my Surface Pro was just charged to it.

So looking like it should arrive on time.

Did Barclaycard actually decline the transaction or just phone you up to ask if it was you?

I just had HSBC call saying they declined the transaction and cancelled the card. I have got the card reinstated but they can't accept the transaction and that I have get Microsoft to try again.

I really hope that I don't have to order again as the Pro 2 256GB dates have been pushed back.

Possibly the first time I've looked at my bank balance and been disappointed by having more money than I thought lol, MS still haven't charged me.

So I can confirmed I have now been charged by Microsoft for my Surface Pro 2.

I also ordered a black touch cover 2 and purple type cover 2 from PC World for Tuesday morning delivery before midday.

I had a couple of thoughts regarding using PC World.

Firstly I couldn't reserve and collect the covers, the choice was order for home delivery or store delivery and I decided home delivery is more convenient.

Secondly I would have loved to buy a Pro 2 from PC World and use the DROID5 and save 5% but I wasn't sure that the dates they had were accurate or wouldn't change.

Having said that I would have probably placed an order anyway using the discount if Microsoft hadn't already charged me as I have no clue when they will deliver the surface pro 2 either.

In amongst the Surface 2 hype, but have to say pretty impressed with the full 8.1 update, I've been running the preview on my XPS 10 for a few months but since installing the full version it is significantly more stable and smoother especially browsing on IE11 with script-heavy sites.

Part of that may be the fresh install etc but there's definitely some performance enhancements in there IMO.

Thought I'd place an order on PC World to take advantage of the 5% off, and then if a better student deal goes online tomorrow or Tuesday I could cancel before the order is dispatched on Wednesday. Just tried to pay with my Bank of Scotland card and their verification step rejected me, didn't process the payment and says they will be in contact later to see if the payment I tried to make was genuine. Problem is they won't contact me until tomorrow when the offer will have expired!
