*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

Yep video playing one side still browsing the web on the other side, feels good lol.

It's absolutely fantastic. Something I really hated with the iPad.

After owning it for a bit I'm very happy with it for the price. The OS really is fantastic. However I would put the hardware at the ipad2 as a direct competitor, although more premium feel. Which is a shame as ipad2 was out well before the surface. I wonder how the surface2 stacks up against the latest iPad.

The tegra3 is just about ok for the price. The HDD is the most disappointing component and pretty slow. The screen looks fantastic despite its low resolution. The button placement is worse than I could imagine. Windows button needs moving to right hand edge. And volume rocker to top edge.
Get the hardware to top notch and they would make there life so much easier. People do look at pixels so they really heed to include a greater than 1080 display. Should also drop 32gb and do 64 and 128 at the current price point.

Still loving it though. Shame a lot of the apps have not been updated for 8.1 split screen and search.

Bought he surface2 and took it back after a few days, side by side I could badly see the screen res difference, and couldn't feel any real speed difference real world, loading web pages up side by side showed very little difference, also the Surface2 felt a lot cheaper in the hand. Sticking with the RT for a long time yet.

I'd expect more from the Surface 3 than the Pro3, other than increasing battery life, dropping weight theres not a huge amount that I think that Pro2 needs..
I'd like to see them drop the whole RT OS, start using better specced Atom/AMD stuff rather than the Tegra's, go full fat Win8, that way they get rid of the 3 OS thing and just have 2, phone and full fat 8/...

I'm still not totally sold on atom. Its come a huge way, but still has issues mainly driver. I mean they still haven't sorted out there 64bit drivers so they're all running 32bit, although it is meant to be coming q1, I've also read that they heat up the back of tablets far more than arm as well as codec issues, price is still to high an equivalent arm vs atom 10" tablet firmly comes to arm not only cheaper but better screens etc generally, or same specs your looking at over £200 difference.
Cherry trail atom might change my mind later in the year, see how much better the performance is. Intel have a huge advantage as they can do 14nm that's far smaller than arm, but they just need to get there. Bay trail was a collasal step forward.

Rt is perfectly fine(unless it comes with an i5, running traditional applications is of no use for me). The rumour is it will go down to 2 with one combined app store.
Windows rt and wp8 to merge together to form a pan all encompassing arm version.

Well it came with no power in the device after pressing the power button for different lengths for a while! Once plugged in, it was up and running and it really is quick and smooth and basically instant on from shutdown too, lovely. Just have to wait for the bugger to charge now though so I can do the numerous updates and get to 8.1.

Well metrotube hasn't been abandoned, I gave feedback asking for half screen split to be support as well as a few other things.

Thanks for your email. We couldn't agree more, the app has been far too long without an update. We're currently working on finishing up the Windows Phone update, so hopefully we'll get that out soon. After that we'll be focusing on the Windows 8.1 update to fix some of the issues there too.

RT needs to die without a doubt, a completely unnecessary confusion that I'm sure they'll rectify in due course. I didn't have a huge amount of time with the Surface 2, but on the face of it to the uninitiated, the Surface 2 and the Pro operate in exactly the same way. You get tiles, metro apps, a desktop, desktop versions of some apps, it's just too similar to not be confusing.

Will be very interested to see where they go with the Pro 3. Besides some dodgy apps still the missus is really loving the Pro 2 (From everything I can tell!). The only thing I'd ask from the Pro 3 is a slightly bigger screen (same effective resolution, whether they achieve that natively or with a super high 4:1 DPI display I don't mind), better battery, and make the stylus as good as humanly possible, Wacom Cintiq sort of quality. Then, a monstrous marketing drive to the creative sector. Once creatives have got their teeth into it everyone will think they'll cool, pretty much sorts itself from there on in! Ecosystem explodes, apps get better, profit!

I am loving my Surface Pro, it absolutely flies, so quick and smooth. FM 2014 plays like a dream on this and that includes in windowed mode, touch is accurate and easy.

Only just remembered about the pen, seems very accurate and great pressure sensitivity, too bad i'm a terrible artist :D

Got my Surface Pro today, spent the evening getting it setup. Really impressed with it so far. I had this feeling it was going to be similar to my old HP TC1100 Tablet PC; noisy fan, too hot to hold, slow.

The reality is it boots from cold faster than my iPad! Installing the first batch of windows updates really set off the fan but since then its been near silent. I'm using it right now in bed to browse the web, it's slightly warm and I've not heard a peep from the fan.

Biggest complaint so far is the lack of addin support for the Metro IE, adlock would have been nice but the lack of a password manager is frustrating.

One thing that I will say if you are using it in bed, dont rest it on your gut if your topless, hairs in the dock connections on the bottom will give you a tickle from the power...

tempted to get one but know it would just collect dust. if i was traveling a lot abroad i would consider it.

How long does the battery last for browsing websites and watching videos? as good as an ipad?

I'd put them (ARM versions) in the same league, but in my experience you could probably squeeze a bit more out of the iPad.

Surface charges much faster, however. My 3rd gen iPad is glacially slow in comparison.

What about the intel version ie the surface pro 2?

i have ipad 3rd gen and it does charge very slowly but battery life can last pretty well.

What is it like reading ebooks etc in portrait mode on the surface pro 2? seems like i may not get along with the aspect ratio.
