*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

Oh good, I presume you found it in store then?

Yeah i was going to ***** the money on a surface 2 (although cant justify the money at the moment) was searching for one (they just have a collection of boxes underneath the display ones) and saw a little sticky label on one of the boxes. That was it choice made.

Any way to lock orientation and take off the show where you've pressed spot thing.
Also any recomendations for hard protective cases that fit tablet and cover in?

Question here, though its more about running in Windowws 8 Explorer.

Is their an easier way to get two Explorer tabs running side by side, I can do it if you long press on a link and get it to "Open in new Tab", just thought their might be a more direct way to do this.

Lock orientation can be set, by opening the settings charm, and there is a small button above the brightness slider:

The touch circles are controlled in the Pen & Touch settings of the desktop control panel. In the touch tab there is a touch feedback section.

Thank you, figured out the lock screen last night. But now no more silly screen feedback :).
Loving it, metrotube needs updating though, it doesn't support third screen video size.
But so nice being able to multitask properly.

Is there a way like in ios to add auto correct words?
Like in ios I had it to auto correct abbreviations like atm to actually auto correct that to at the moment.

I can get the Surface Pro original 128gb version for £404.99 at the moment from microsoft student, would people who own them recommend this over the Pro 2 which is £799.99 (comes with £80 store vouchers so getting a cover would be £20-30)?

WOW that is a nice price.

Honestly I'd get the original Pro and buy an 8" tablet windows tablet with the change.

The battery life on the original can be frustrating. But asides from that and the kickstand there is little between them.

Also remember power cover should make an appearance before long.

Thats a fair chunk of difference cost wise tbh, having had both I'd stick with the original Pro at that money, only reason I changed was I wanted moar ram's...
Think of all the beer and johnnies that extra money would buy...

Or books if you're a serious student lol

Yeah it is a big saving, I wouldn't get another windows 8" tablet though, I recently got one of those 7" Asus Memo Pad HD tablets and it does the job I would want from that size point.

I guess my two last questions before I pull the trigger would be, how much battery life will you get out of this if you are playing a game or using a full blown program? If it can last 4-5 hours that will do me and is the 2nd kick stand that big a deal, aren't the viewing angles meant to be pretty great?

I've seen it in action and it definitely is better but I can easily live with it I reckon. I only really play FM on PC. I think from what i've seen the battery will do me fine. However I can't seem to actually purchase it or anything else as it won't put anything in the basket... well done microsoft!

Ha yeah the whole surface event has been fun for me, despite all of that I really do like the product..

After receiving my Venue 8 Pro my Surface has got a lot less use.

Tempted to sell it and get a Dell XPS 13 as I'm finding the screen a tiny bit too small for some things.

Whats the Venue 8 like, mate of mine brought his Toshiba 8" unit round the other day, not sure what model it was but it was dog slow, while I like the idea of a smaller unit for carrying around, and like the full fat win8 over RT, I expect it to be slower being Atom based but it was too slow to be useable...

The new baytrail processors are so so much better than the old atoms ( i think they should have been renamed). If it was the Toshiba encore then it will be the same chipset and similar performance.

Can get a usb OTG cable for most USB things but HDDs I think would take too much power than the dell will supply

I guess one of those WiFi HDD is the way to go then? Saw one of those on green forest for 140 for a 1tb one.
