Surface 2?
tbh any half decent tablet thats got player support will do you, cheap Android and MXPlayer?

One thing I do like and its small is when ever I pick the iPad up (got loads of websites on there saves, thought I transferred the important ones over but jeep finding more)
Is the mag case never gets ice cold, where the iPad is just one massive heat sink and is freezing to touch.

I wish they would sort out the issue with in browser video support. It plays them fine, but you get the hand when touching the screen, sometimes closing the browser foxes this, other times it needs a reboot. Its extremely annoying. Still very happy with it, split screen is by far the best, quickly followed by true multitasking, can run videos in one web browser tab in the background and it carries on playing.

Microsoft should get cracking on some exclusive WinRT games. A Gears of War title, or a companion game to whatever franchise is flavour of the moment. I feel the whole Xbox gaming brand is under-utilized on Windows 8/RT.

Looks like the long wait is almost over.

This is an extremely short update:

Our dashboad on dev.windows.com finally says:

VLC for WinRT: Release 1 passed certification.

We need to polish a few things but we'll publish soon: the major crashes seem to be gone!

We'll keep you posted.

exclusive for only MS tablet devices?

No, it's on Wndows RT/8 store.

Not on Windows phone (Yet all my android devices can get it)

Looks like the long wait is almost over.

I believe VLC are using RT to mean something other than the ARM variant of Windows, they state many times it's 8/8.1 first, with RT after, so we may still be waiting a while :p

Plus, sure early on with the kickstarter they said backers would get a beta first.

Sent mine back today, I'm convinced there's something wrong with the speakers :(

The sound quality and volume is really bad when compared to my iPhone 5 and iPad.

Ran a restore that made no difference, spoke to there technical support and arranged a replacement.

Surface 1 or 2?
If it's 2, it's not faulty, they're just CRAP.

I had a Surface 1 quite late into it, but it was absolutely solid for me, speakers were solid (But quiet)

Surface 2's are just crap (You can make them sound decent when you turn off tegra enhancements, but they're quiet)

Surface 2, got it on launch day. Never really been impressed by the speakers, thought I would do something about it.

I'll be gutted it the replacement is just as bad :( back to the iPad or Surface 3.......

Just a heads up, the Pro is currently available for £480, -£50 Quidco, plus you could get atleast £30 for the bundled touch cover so works out at £400. Granted battery life is well behind the Pro 2 and the kickstand only has one angle, but if you can live with that then it's a pretty awesome deal IMO.

I got a Surface 2, had it a week and the bezel was funny so returned it. Had the replacement a day and it bricked itself doing a Windows Update, never to turn on again.

There's some video files that Windows RT thus far just flat out can't play (Yet on my 8.1 laptop etc it works with Windows Modern UI Video app) but runs on the Xperia Z1 with Sonys default video app.

Vlc will be out soon

It will on X86 (Not that they need it.....), who knows how long the wait for RT will be (VLC use WinRT to mean something other than the ARM variant of Windows, runtime perhaps?)

And what if it's a Windows limitation? No other players can play it, but Windows default player on X86 does.

And it's not good enough, as it's 16 months old, those files have been unplayable for 16 months :p

How on earth have you got to vlc calling winrt as something else VLC for WinRT is pretty specific. As they said in their own update
