How on earth have you got to vlc calling winrt as something else VLC for WinRT is pretty specific. As they said in their own update

:confused:
Yes, they ARE specific, WinRT means Windows Runtime, not Windows RT (The two are different)
They've specified that the ARM variant won't be out at the same time as the X86 one.

It's why they say WinRT platforms.

Here's a quote ;

So, here is an update about our port on WinRT platforms.

I now say WinRT platforms, but that means:

Windows 8/8.1 ModernUI "Metro"
Windows Phone 8
XBox One? (who knows?)
The WinRT platforms have mostly 2 flavors: x86 and ARM. And we'll try to be on both of them.

Windows RT's VLC could be a number of weeks off, or even longer.

And again ;

VLC for WinRT: Release 1 passed certification.

We need to polish a few things but we’ll publish soon: the major crashes seem to be gone!

The work on the Windows RT version will contribute most to the eventual Windows Phone release, though with apps like Moliplayer already offering much of the features we have been missing one wonders if the waiting will all be worthwhile.

The team has previously posted:

At the same time, we’re spending quite a bit of time to get a working version for ARM, so we can deploy on Windows RT too. We don’t know exactly how much time, but we hope it’s a matter of weeks. The issues are mostly compiler related.

Windows Phone should not need a lot of extra work for the API, but will require some work for files management. Adaptation of the basic UI should be simple enough.

I'm buying another RT v1 for someone, but need confirmation on the keyboard, as they'll be typing a lot.

Touch v1 is 39 bucks, Type 2 is around $125. is it definitely worth it over Touch for 3x the price?

I bought my Touch covers more like a screen cover than to do lots of typing. it's ok-ish, but I doubt it is pleasant for longer texts.

also, random question, would you personally get 64GB for $50 extra?

If you have need to be mobile but without the compatibility issues an MBA or similar would give you then the Pro 2 is an awesome bit of kit, being the IT Manager has its bonuses when it comes to picking your own setup ;D

I have the touch V1 and Type 2 cover oddly enough. The type2 is far better mainly because it has proper push buttons and lights up. Typing feels more natural compared to the touch which is OK for a bit of typing but I found I was making more mistakes on it. If you need to be doing a lot of typing, then you should get the type cover.

Just downloaded and exploring them now, seems to be a very good start, using it and its pretty neat how it brings in images and reviews of local places etc.

thanks, I already bought both type cover 2 and touch cover with the Surface this time, as there was a discount for buying them together, but will sell the type cover on bay when it arrives.

I have a surface RT 1 and loved it but now its becoming to slow and clunky. How much better is the Surface 2?

Love Windows 8 just starting to frustrate me abit.

While I love my Surface 2, and will no doubt get myself a Surface 3 (Although I hope they make it X86 on Intels mobile offerings, but if they don't, no harm, just as long as the speakers are better and it has a faster SOC, even though it's kinda pointless :p) I'd suggest a HP Omni 10 over a Surface 2, unless build quality sways you to a decent degree.

I really hope the next gen Atom's are a bit faster and that MS drop the RT and just have full fat Win8.1 and WP8.1, 2 OS's is easier from their POV surely, then we just need Intel to make the Atom's a bit faster as the current ones are poor, had a play with a Toshiba W8 thing and its painfully slow to the point that there is no point in it...
