Slowly making this less suitable at it's primary purpose and more of a long touring bike.

Swapped tyres to Schwalbe All Road, changed to a 32T chainring and added some aero bars i found in the shed of the house i'm renting which the landlord said i could have! They're a bit small and awkwardly shaped for me though so will likely swap them out once i've made a decision whether to keep or not.

Not on the picture yet, but also have a Redshift suspension seatpost.

Also bought some Ergon grips. On the lookout for a handlebar with a bit of sweep for comfort too.

Out in April, full suspension and 74 mile range with 7-speed normal gears too. Had a lot of fun hauling all 33KG of it around trails yesterday :eek:

The boost button insta-torque function is pretty cool, pushes you up inclines greater than 15% fairly easily, only 60s at a time though.
 
I'm still alive after hours of downhill so must be fine :D

All of my sons bikes through 10 years of him growing up.

In terms of cost - Each new bike, was pretty much exactly 2x the cost of the previous bike (excluding the 2024 hard tail). All were bought new in the year shown and then sold on eBay when the new bike arrived, for just an 8% to 12% loss. With the exception of the first bike, which we lost the most on : 80%

e.g.
2022 Canyon Young Hero : £1,600
2024 Trek Rail 5 : £3,200(reduced from £5k)

So, in my experience - Definitely worth spending more on quality kids bikes :)

I converted the Trek Rail to a mullet 29/27.5 setup this year, as he found the larger rear wheel trickier to ride on tighter trails.
i did ‘size up‘ for it - it’s a medium frame. A small frame would have been better for him last year, but he’s grown 7cm’s this year and is now in the height window(165cm) for the medium size. This should last him another 3-4 years(Assuming growth rate slows down :p )

How do you find the headset-routed cables? Had to do any work on your own bike that meant you needed to fiddle around with them or had any issues with the headset bearings?

I’ve had headset routed cables in 2 other bikes (nukeproof megawatt and vitus esommet) and most work I’ve done myself is remove the forks which was nice and simple, anything else and it goes to the bike shop.
 
Did you move from the Vitus to the Nuke and then on to the Cube?

Love a white bike and the lines on your Cube from the top-tube down to the axle are *chefs kiss*.

I went nukeproof > vitus > Whyte e160rsx > cube.

I had loads of problems with the Whyte so had to change bikes.
 
Absolutely banger of a bike for the money isn't it!
Yup amazing value for money, really enjoying it so far now I’ve sorted the creaking out (rear shock bolts)

A red zeb and a vivid air and some hope cranks and the bikes done. It’s great as it is but I think that would make it even better.

The stock suspension is pretty good but moving up to the Zeb and vivid as I have with the factory and the x2 bits made the world of difference. I just don’t think £3.5k extra for all the factory parts and the t-type is worth it on top of the SLX model as you can buy them for less than that and do it yourself with the old bits kept as spare. Having a “winter” shock and fork when you get the main ones serviced is helpful after all.

Exactly what I was thinking. For 4k the slx build is amazing. I’m looking forward to power update for the motor which is supposed to take it to 100nm and 700w apparently coming either May 1st or June 1st. The new display for the top tube will be a welcome addition as well. I wish Bosch was garmin friendly.
