The Official My Console Died What Should I Do Thread?

@r0undb0y

Chances are you will get a refurb unit. Microsoft are replacing motherboard and swapping the DVD drives out too. You will get your mint condition case back and have the same serial number, it's just the parts inside that will of changed.

T.

So i should keep my hdmi connection at the back? I really dont like using any other output because hdmi is the best one.

Another ****ing borked console. This one a replacement that has a manufacture date of Dec 08.

The piece of **** keeps locking up on games unless I install to harddrive. Which means I'm goign to have to go through the whole migration of DLC again.

How did you manage to get your DLC transferred in the end? (I seem to recall you used up your annual 1 change via web and were pursuing this over the phone?)

I swapped mine via the web but then bought a replacement 360 so have to wait another 9 months to transfer the content a 2nd time, unless your method was quick and trouble free (I suspect not, but you never know :) ).

They will only transfer your content on one they replace themselves. It took 3 or 4 phone calls to eventually get it escallated enough to get them to hurry up and swap it.

You could try and ask on the phone but I doubt you will have much luck. Tell them it broke and you had to buy a replacement. They then might help you out.

I'm currently having trouble getting mine replaced. They say my service contract has expired. I say it hasn't and have sent them a copy of the agreement which ends 10 march.

I'm waiting to hear back.

While I was at it I asked them to confirm when my 2nd console ran out of contract. They said April 09. I said May 10. They said I was wrong again. I provided ref numbers for my service contract payment and the original console serial number and the list of serial number changes.

2 days later I got a phone call to tell me I was right. The information hadn't been getting transferred on console replacement. A bit worrying that if you don't keep a list of your console history.

My first console finally died, just the wait now. Luckily my mate across the road has a spare one for me to use in the time being. :)

Having the usual battle trying to get my DLC transferred. They all **** themselves when they see I have 350 licenses for them to move.

Then extending the warranty was another ball breaker. They are set up fine and dandy to repair consoles but just trying to navigate the menus to find an agent is a complete arse.

I bought my 360 in Oct 06 and it finally got the 3 red ring lights tonight. Have contacted support for a repair but what do they send back in return these days? Mine is a premium without HDMI so I'm not likely to get a refurbed HDMI model back am I?
Maybe I should buy a new n improved 360 and sell the old one when repaired.

Thanks op for the info on the first page saved me messing about when my 360 died.
Took 11 days in total to get sorted which was not bad.

Hi I just got this error code on my xbox:-

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.

If this isn't a cable issue are microsoft right in saying that this isn't covered by their 3 year warrenty? (they said it only applies to 3 red rings and will cost £70 to get an engineer out to fix it)

Cheers

I would be very interested to know about this aswell as mine just gave up the ghost to tried it a couple of times but just keep getting RROD.

Do MS still send a box for the console? I requested a repair and got a label e-mailed to me. Am i meant to find my own box or what? They used to send you out a box.

Just as well i am a box **** then lol I think i have 3 or 4 xbox boxes, much to the missus chagrin lol

3 months I've had my xbox back and still waiting for them to transfer the license on the DLC. 6 phone calls I've had to make now to these ****s.

I got home and had 3 calls on my house phone within the space of 5 minutes. They then emailed me to say they closed the case because they tried to contact me 3 times.

So I have had to start the process all over again. I don't know why they don't just reset the DRM tool for you when they send back your xbox so you can do it quickly and easily yourself online.

A bit confused by all the different labels etc for the return, the e-mails keep talking about needing 3 copies of the commercial invoice but I'm pretty sure I don't have one!

Can I just sellotape/parceltape the shipping label onto a box and give it to them or is there other stuff I need to sort?

Finally after 6 months of trying I finally got my DLC transferred. Not by MS but because my year ran out where you can do it yourself.

Half an hour redownloading my licenses and I can now play MY content offline again. I can turn the homeplug off and now save a few pence in electric ;)
