The Official Nexus S Thread

Yup it is a complete joke that it isn't getting 4.2, did they ever give a reason as to why? No doubt the same bull **** reason every company uses "hardware didn't support it"

Such a huge disadvantage this area, not even the nexus phones are safe, same happened with the nexus one and no doubt that the same will happen with the galaxy nexus and the next update, v5 or whatever.

Essentially no android phone will ever get more than 2 big android updates in their life time :(

I know this opinion wont be popular in this thread, but whilst not a good thing, I don't see it being that big a travesty that a 2 year old phone no longer gets updates? Tech is moving so fast right now, 2 years is a very long time.

Well yeah, part of me thinks that 2 years is a good run, especially in Android world! Long enough that most people will be at the end of a contract and ready to upgrade. And the GNS did see three major versions of Android (GB, ICS and JB) - more than most phones will ever see!

I am using my GNS as my main device (waiting for my GN4 :(), and in fairness, it is a bit laggy when multi-tasking etc. So "hardware limitations" is actually semi-accurate :p

I still want an official 4.2 release though :o

True about it being a 2 year old device but there is no reason why they couldn't update it anyway, wasn't exactly a major update, only some new features (which wouldn't be that demanding apart from the photosphere camera ability probably, which they could have left out) and that was it. Given that it is a nexus device it should receive every update unless the hardware really isn't good enough.

Hey dudes,

Any Nexus S users still out there? :p

I'm actually using it as a second phone (with my UK SIM while I'm over in the US), so it still sees some occasional use :)

Just wondering if any of you guys have tried any custom ROMs to get this device onto kit kat? The memory optimisations could be well suited for its teeny 512MB RAM.

Tempted to give SlimKat or another similar "svelte" ROM a go :)

Cheers,

Su

P.S. After all these years, this phone still feels gorgeous in the hand. Perfect size, perfect shape... :)

Cool, thanks - is that your video?

I'm interested to hear opinions on whether the whole process is actually worth it... I.e. does KitKat actually speed up the device a little?

Cheers,

Su

I've been using Kitkang for a few months and the speed is impressive especially the launcher. The speed improvements over jellybean are well worth the effort of a flash.

Let us know how you get on with slimkat.

Haha, dude the Moto X has been calling for months... I ignored it, and now it's too late :p

Next phone will probs be Xperia Z, new One or G3.

I don't think I will ever get rid of this Nexus S though; love it to bits :D
