*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

This is all that matters really, they have a closed market and they know it.

Yeah, a large part of their business model relies on that. They also kicked off/really accelerated the trend for all companies to start churning out their old games again as remakes, remasters etc because its low powered hardware and portability made it perfect for that.

They treat their customers like absolute mugs and we largely oblige.

To be fair, Nintendo started the whole remaster thing back on the SNES with Super Mario Allstars.

There have always been the occasional one but the Switch made companies realise just how much money was to be made from these things IMO.
I guess that was Nintendos own fault for the Wii U being such a failure and them wanting to recoup the money spent making the games. It worked as many missed out on them on that console.

Cool the Switch 2 looks very much like the Switch XL or Switch Pro rather than a total redesign but that's fine I hope PS4 level in handheld and PS4 Pro when docked anything better is just gravy

Other then an OLED screen (if they are only just releasing an LCD model) I don't think they could have done anything more then what is shown in that video, bigger screen bigger and better joy cons, charger in the top etc. If they drastically changed the console / controllers then it wouldn't be called the switch 2.

Also backwards compatibility is a big win imo.

I mean there isn't much else they could do with the form factor. Just look at Steam deck, ROG Ally etc. All very similar.

It's also a timing thing nostalgia for those original console classics is at an all time high and those that grew up with those games have disposable cash and kids, it is you say a cow perfect for milking!

The remastering started way before that; it was just that in this generation companies really started to get lazy, not helped by the "leap" from PS4/X1X to the new generation being a fairly marginal upgrade (compared to past "new generations").

There's shed loads of remasters on PS3/PS4 from Sony as well
