*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

I'm waiting to get a 512GB microSD Express card. I feel like 256GB is just too small especially as the Switch 2 is going to last well past 5 years. Been looking around but haven't found any for sale yet.

Edit: Hmm, there is a 512GB card for £159. Pretty expensive.

And that's one reason I refuse to pay that price for 512GB, I've seen that one listed for a long time, but whoever has that capacity listed even though they have no stock, it's going from £89 to £94. So £159 for 512GB is criminal, considering the 1TB will be close to that.

I don't touch physical media, so every game I've bought on the previous Switch is digital only. I'm using 319GB currently with 17GB left on my 256GB Micro SD Card and 113GB free on the internal storage, and I could still do with another few hundred gigabytes to have my entire library on me. Plus, any future Switch 2 patches are going to take up even more space, so I like to have plenty available. 1TB is what I had in my old Switch, but it's still really annoying trying to get a 1TB or even a 512GB express card. No excuse not to massively ramp up production of these cards considering they still work in regular Micro SD Card readers so they will sell, just at the slower speeds. It's about time these cards became the norm going forward.
Do you really need your whole library installed?

Seems like a waste, I have some Switch games I've not touched in years but if I wanted to play them with the file sizes it wouldn't take long to download.

The 512GB card is £93.99 on SanDisk website (which is still expensive) £159 is people taking advantage of the reduced supply :(

I'm not even buying a SD express until a gig version is available for £120-£150, by Christmas hopefully should see deals like that. Though I'm out of space after transfer to Switch 2 from Switch 1 I'll just delete a few games.

Mini review and thoughts so far after a few weeks:

Purchased somewhat on impulse, had checked Argos stock levels intermittently as only way I wanted to get one was store pick up. Checked early one morning and had one for pick up that day, so was overall very easy to get one a week or so after launch.

Mario Kart bundle at least gets some discount on the game, but at present it's the only Switch 2 dedicated game I own. I had a few unplayed Switch games that have received major updates which is a huge bonus such a Pokemon Violet. I also have a few of the free upgrade games such as Mario Odyssey, etc. Many others have got major improvements without dedicated upgrades like Rune Factory 5 and Cities Skylines. Very impressed with overall performance. Mario Kart World is awesome for me if nothing that new.

Took a lot of time getting HDR settings set up on TV to not look too bright and washed out, but it now looks amazing. The Switch 2 HDR calibration setting isn't accurate for some TV's that don't have HGiG. Even mine that does have it has too bright nits level to be accurately calibrated by their setting. But each click on the brightness is approx 10 nits, so you can count to get the correct setting disregarding their visual guide. The HDR on my 1300 nit TV now looks outstanding at 4k 60fps. Mario Kart World has some graphics that feel 'next gen' in HDR, the most impressed I've been with Nintendo graphics at launch since Mario 64.

Youtube app is a big omission and a reason I'll keep Switch 1 as well, Switch 2 will get it eventually but surprised not at launch. With Youtube Premium, my Switch 1 when not gaming was often used as if 2nd monitor device playing Youtube at PC desk. Switch 2 will continue that extra function when they release the app.

It's really too early to call, but I'm loving it as a Switch 1 upgrade, with so few games at the moment the premium online for a year isn't a bad option. The Gamecube is really nice to have with all of its game supporting widescreen too. I'm playing a lot of older GBA games as well, but the premium online gets you the Switch 2 version of the Zelda games too. ToTK looks amazing in HDR but I played through almost all of it on Switch 1 and not sure want to start again.

I'm not bothered by the screen blurring issues though accept it could be a lot better and almost certainly will be in future revisions. My main reason for getting it was as Switch 1 upgrade and Mario Kart as I had Mario Kart 8 all the way back on the Wii U, been a long time for a truly new version. Others might prefer to wait for more games to be available, but I think it will be a long time for a new screen version at which point it will likely cost even more.

Yeah I configured the HDR again with the guide posted a few pages back. Mario Kart and ToTK look so good. Very happy with my purchase and very much looking forward to DK in a few weeks. Not touched my PS5 Pro since this came out.

Yeah I have DK on pre-order. Hopefully I'll like it. Same with the Xbox for me. I've been playing the Switch 2 much more.

Tech wise steam deck is showing its age now though, I don’t think valve will be able to get it to keep up with recent games for much longer.

I saw a video of it running doom dark ages and it looked terrible performance wise

I just decided to hook up my B&W Px7 S2e headphones directly to the Switch 2 over bluetooth and was surprised that the microphone works perfectly. Much better than having them connected to the TV.
That's surprising, there's a message in bluetooth settings on the console that says bluetooth mics won't work, but it seems some specific types do.

I was using game chat the other day and surprised how well it works - all of us just using the mic on the switch itself and mine docked, noise cancelling is quite good too.

But the console/game bundles were digital key codes, and therefore count toward digital sales ( which is what the e-shop is based on ).
I’m not sure that’s a given (does Nintendo publish its methodology anywhere?) but in any case, sales charts are not cumulative, well they shouldn’t be cumulative, that would be dumb.

Even if they did count, almost all of those ‘sales’ would have landed in the first few days of the launch which was over a month ago.

All those sales will have now dropped off the charts if they are weekly, fortnightly, or monthly and what you are now seeing is a more natural churn of new console sales (MKW bundle) and existing owners buying stuff from the eShop.
